Mmm I'm a bit of a closet Idol fan. But we only get sporadic seasons in Oz, as we've had our own hokey Australian Idol for a few years now. So we've only had the Fantasia year and last year with Carrie. But you've renewed my interest knuckles so I'll go check out the idol website later. [Oh and even though it was only on PayTV here, USA Country Idol [?name?] was gr8... ] ... lol please please please don't let me get to the site and see that Paris Hilton is a finalist! ;)

I have never seen anything Idol except the blurry commercials I fast forward through on Tivo.

well, i'm not too proud to admit that i watch american idol. as long as i'm confessing, i also watch america's next top model, project runway and top chef! whew, i feel better now.

to answer your question, knuckles, my favs this year are chris and taylor. i'm so glad that kelly is gone.

Ran, thank you for the offer of refuge...I'll be showing up on your doorstep anytime now, Missy in tow, so have LOTS of tuna on hand! I'm glad to know that when the INS does come calling to revoke my citizenship, I won't be the only one who they target. (At least they might finally start to forgive me for that bubblegum incident through the x-ray machine at JFK of a decade ago...Maybe....(They HAVE commercials for American Idol???)

Yes, some of the auditions are hilarious! People who think they have the best voices in the universe and can't carry a tune! *cringe*

I confess to having seen 2 episodes during the first season. And I actually watched TV twice last week! (which makes twice in the last month) but neither time was AI. *walks away muttering to self: I coulda been a contender! self retorts: In your dreams!*

God. Don't even get me started on closet Idol fandom. I was all, like "hey let's watch the auditions...what's better TV than dumbasses who don't know that they're dumbasses trying to prove they're not dumbasses?"

Whatever, it's like nine weeks later and the machine has completely sucked me in and devoured me. Public service message: DON'T be like crunchpatty!

OK so the shame piece out of the way...here's my analysis:

Paris (not Hilton...neither Ho nor hotel) is far and away the most talented of them. She won't win though, because her appeal is not really that mainstream and this is a show that rewards mediocrity done brilliantly. I actually hope she doesn't win. She's much better than the machine.

Taylor won't win because he won't sell Teen Vogue magazines. There's really nothing about that guy that says 'Hey tweenies...trust me with your tampon questions, ok?" Too bad because he can actually sing.

Kelly was an idiot. Even Andrea Bocelli called her out as blonde and well..that guy is blind.

Elliot has about as much appeal as rancid butter smeared on a playing card.

Bucky will be playing allman brothers cover tunes at the prom for the high school he graduated from until 2009, at which point he will switch jobs. I have no idea what the new job will be but I bet you $10 it will involve a smock.

So it's down to Chris or Katherine (sp?) by my reckoning. Whatever...$5 on Katherine.

ugh *wraps the audition microphone for the upcoming Canadian Idol in back bacon and free health care...rolls up in the corner fingers in ears*

American Idol is all that's stupid and deteriorating about American life and culture and I would never waste/compromise/taint my precious time nor youth to succumb to watching it.

That said, Paris should totally win, with the grey-haired guy in second.
