no audience, 'judge o' character' is not some irish guy with a gavel and a robe.

What I'm wondering is this (by wondering, I mean its making me nuts..yay subtlety gene):

how is it possible that in the same case you can try to interrogate witness/suspect A successfully when the judge of character skill has reported that the chance of success is 59, while trying the same trick on witness/suspect B can fail even though the chance of success is higher?

Don't get me wrong...it normally works. But in those instances when it doesn't, I'm all 'what the hell?'

Comments? Suggestions? Bueller? Bueller?

aah, cool, thanks Ben...I had actually wondered about whether there was a relationship between the margin of success and the number of subsequent questions answered, but then I sort of though I was maybe a l'il bit insane for wondering that.

Ugh, my crazy is acting up again. I bet it's based on something really remote, like the calculated liklihood that a thread you start will have more than 9 responses...

The randomness meeting now features foil hats and free asterisks.

(okay yup that's it...I've gone nuts :-P)

nope Will, not ocd but funny you should ask (actually, funnier that you should ask twice even if the second one is a mistake...repetitive actions etc) -my brother is, and I kind of write stuff about it for what passes as my living.

*thinks about how many things having "rasputin's eggs in your locker" could be a euphemism for then groans at own really bad joke*

Isn't there also a correlation whether the person you are speaking to is of the opposite sex esp. when using sweet talking/flirting? But then, that still should be reflected in the percentage, huh? Okay, I'm answering my own question.

I think they do this so voila, it is never easy we are frustrated enough to come back for more. It's like the ultimate Pavlovian training. We never know when we will be successful, so we go for it every time.

yep, you answered your own question. *grin* If the suspect is the opposite sex and you have flirting it increases your chances by 20 points.
