WARNING GAME SPOILER!!

If you wish to enjoy the adventure of figuring out this game on your own, DO NOT read the rest of this post.

If you are too lazy to read through a page or two of threads to see if your question has already been asked a zillion times, then PLEASE read this first!

Welcome to Sleuth, and your new addiction.  There is no cure, so just accept it and enjoy it! Here are a few tips and hints that you should find helpful, and are among the FAQ of the newbie boards.

First, a great place to FIND ANSWERS and cool history threads about Sleuth is in the Moderator Picks Board. The Mods have picked out their favorite bits and made them easy to find. In addition to personal favorites, try looking over the Newbie FAQ. This can be found on the bottom of most pages as a tiny little grey link. Also the Help file at the upper right of most screens is packed with little useful tidbits.

HOW DO I SOLVE a case? First off…we recommend that you try the tutorial found on the front of the case page. It won’t count against your daily caseload, and it will give you an idea of how the game works. It’s not set up to walk you through the most efficient course through the game, but to show you how the game works, leaving you to find your own strategy. The following formulas will help you find your murderer.

PE+Fake/"none of your business" Alibi=guilty
WE+Fake/"none of your business" Alibi=guilty
2 WE = guilty

PE=Physical Evidence WE=Witness Evidence

Having a clammed suspect that will not give you an alibi is not the same as a fake/none alibi.

PE+WE DOES NOT = Guilty

I'm not sure I fully understand the question, but...

If you return to the city you were in you can solve cases in it again, but you can only do cases in one city at a time.

Hey JJ...saw your post introducing yourself on the other board and I'm glad you found your way over here...yeah, for sure, it's a lot but take your time and you'll get the hang of things quickly!

As of now, finding out the particulars of how they were murdered doesn't make a difference to how to play the game, so it isn't an option...a very good idea though! As you start to play harder and harder cases you'll probably find that the setup gets pretty complicated as it is...lots of us have waaaay too many hours logged on here as testament to that!

I'm not sure which links you're talking about, but if you can post something more specific about that, someone can help you out.

The trick to the message boards is that they appear in chronological order, i.e., you see posts in the order that they are made - so to see new stuff you sometimes have to go to the last page and work backwards until you arrive at where you left off last time you checked.

As for open chat, I think it was tried here back before my time without too much success (someone correct me if I'm wrong). There is a chat function on the related site lovingly maintained by our own Detective jstkdn. See www.sleuthchat.com

Hope that helped a bit!

I just played a game in which several of the characters didn't have reasons for me to accuse them, consequently, I falsely accused a man because of this condition.

In the beginning getting the evidence together agaist the killer can be a little more tricky, because a) you probably won't have the skills to find all the evidence at the crime scene (NB! only 1 of them will point to the killer the rest to suspects with real alibis), and b) both suspects and townies clam up pretty fast.

Just remember that to safely accuse someone you need to have either:
- someone with a fake/none of your business alibi + a piece of physical evidence matching that person
OR - someone with a fake/none of your business alibi + the witness evidence from 1 (or 2) other person suspecting that person as the killer
OR - someone with an unknown alibi + 2 other persons suspecting that person to be the killer
(or know the number of suspects per level pretty well and know either how many real or fakes you've found to get a match for the rest)

And make sure you have a little chat with Mr. Shady before you get 3 false accusations as 3 will get you're detective retired :)

Experience points are used for determining skill points...i.e. right now I get 1 skill point for every 40,000 experience points.

Experience points are also what the high scores are based on because they are determined by the number of cases you solve correctly and at what case levels. You know, experience points basically exist for bragging rights. Without them, how could you go, "My detective has more experience points that yours does, nanny nanny boo boo."
