I just started this game yesterday and did a couple of beginner cases. You get experience points and skill points for solved cases, is that right? At the end of a case it'll say ... you got 1 skill point and 10 (0r so) experience points. Now, are those two separate or is it basically telling me that I got 10 exp and that equalled 1 skill point?

Also - I attempted a favor case for the fortune teller and (becasuse I think it was harder than my skills/stats allowed), I pissed off the availible sources of information before I could get all the suspects named/motived. I abandoned the case because it looked like a dead end - is there some way around that problem or what?

Actually exp and skill points are somewhat dependent on eachother.

The more exp you have the more exp it takes to gain a new skill point. Many of us old folks around here have to gain 50K exp before gaining a single skill point anymore. So spend them wisely!!

One minor point not brought up here.

XP controls what level of case you can open up.

You will not be able to open the beginniner cases after a certain point. And as you go up you will have tougher and tougher cases available to you, until you hit the 100,000 mark and can open up Almost Impossible cases.
