What's the best strategy?

What's the best order to do things in? I usually question subjects for aliby and who they suspect, then check alibys 'til I know everyone who's lying and not. Then I check out all the physical evidence until the PE guys clam (which is usually right away) then I ask the suspects who they suspect, going down the line asking only about people who I know are lying about their alibys. Is there a better way to do this? What are some other strategies?

Sam, I hope you have an bottomless bank account. Accusing on PE only is a good way to end up in the Bar in that dark corner with Shady forking over some heavy wads of cash.

Sorry, I meant I I found she had a fake alibi and then connected the PE to her. I've not had the PE + fake/no alibi fail me yet.

As soon as I start the case I got to my priest contact, ask if he knows anything, sometimes I get another name, sometimes not. Then I go to my suspects, ask if they know anyone with a motive. Usually I can get 4 or 5 people then I just click each name until I get the ones that I can pick the lock.
After I have a long suspect list I pay the fortune teller $20 to make sure I haven't missed anyone. Then I do research and cross off the name it gives me. Then, if I found a clump of hair I go to my barber contact and check the hair against everyone on the list. When I get a match I go to that person and check out their alibi (unless it belongs to the person I researched).
Then I start asking about all the alibi's. If I found a footprint and 3 people give the shoe maker, I check all the other alibi's first (waitress, bartender etc) I figure if there's 8 people on my list and I already have fake alibi's for 5 of them...the rest will have valid alibi's.
Next I check my PE. If I found a thread from a males clothes, I check that against the males with fake/no alibi's. Then I check my other PE against those same men, if there's no match I cross those men off my list. Usually by then all my PE's have clammed so I look at who's left on my list and then start asking "do you suspect Mary Jane? No. Do you suspect Wanda Jo? No. Do you suspect Eveline? Yes! Then I get 2 people who say they suspect Eveline so if her alibi was fake/no alibi then I accuse her.

when in doubt and out of options it's best to give up and quit.

No, I think you're right or else we were having the same dream, because I remember something about a thread where Fat Chuck revealed his strategy just before he left, and think there might have been more people talking about their working methods in that thread as well :)
