A request for soemthing here that others may like also.

I would like to be able to mark agency threads as public or private.

Private ones would only be able to be viewed by agency members.

Public threads by the Sleuth Community overall.

I know that some agencies would have very little public, but I am sure that would enjoy reading over some of the roleplaying that goes on in the other agencies.

I wouldn't mind that idea , as long as every person in the agency has that option to make it public or private, not Directors only. Also, when that person is making a post in an agency thread, it is only him or her that can choose if its private or public, someone else can't go ahead and make your post public/private :) It would be up to that individual, and only then would I like that idea :) I roleplay all the time, as anyone who knows me ,is aware of that but I dont know if I want the public to know how goofy I really am LOL ;)

Nice idea..I just think that the individual should be given that choice to do so :) Like, if I create a thread on agency message board, before sending, I have an option to mark it what I want, and I click private. No matter who else posts on my thread, they cant make it public. Only the creater of that thread can do so :) (and can be changed whenever the creater of the thread chooses to do so)

I like the idea for responsible posters, and when it is really interesting to the "public."

But I am afraid of a lot of additional huge amounts of long lasting and lots of it non-sense, lots of repeats, pushing perfectly good threads that really belong on the public board.....off the board.

I much rather have someone copy and pasting something that is really interesting. Then having it be made too easily, clogging our boards with stuff that someone in an agency finds interesting to the public, while....in fact it is really not.

Another downside, it opens up the possibility that only people within an agency can comment. So basically it is a public conversation where some only have read only rights.

Jst, I had envisioned it to be somethign you have to go visit an agency to see. I agree that I do not want agency threads clogging up the boards here. If I wanted to see what was going on in P&W I could just go visit the agency site and see a list of public threads under the list of detectives that are members.

Oh doh, I get it.

I still think that read only access for people in a thread that is public anywhere, is asking for problems. Though most of us I trust to be cool and respectful, we know there are people around who are not. Though 99% of us do not need moderators around, there is 1% of members that they are needed for because they like to be perverts or be hurtful. Also no one is going to scan all agency threads, even though their name may be abused the hell out off on some board somewhere. I'd feel better if people can reply, and that there is somehow easy access them, that there is strict control over them (I mean do we really want to have to visit 10 agency sites, to find out what's going on.)

I am not in favour of having a public board elsewhere other then right here. I have discussed this with Ben before. The very first version of sleutchat was actually on MSN groups, which is actually only has the chat option as a nice extra to message boards. I discussed with Ben then that I had to disable the message board, and where it was open for it not to take away anything that fits in sleuth talk or gumshoe, newbies.

We have a big public message board here. And I'd hate to see quality posts of quality people disappear on an agency board somewhere. Where I time consumingly won't see it at first glance. And have this public message board be a place where only morons come out asking to be noticed.

If I am really honest, I see a lot of posters who have been an integral part of this community withdrawing from conversing on the message boards. As more and more it is becoming a place of people who just want to be noticed, instead of joining a community and bringing something interesting to it. To a point where the community turning away from a message board, as they are getting turned off by it.

This is my honest opinion, I am not giving it as a mod. But just as a person part of this community. And I wouldn't be saying it, if I didn't know more people felt the same way.

*sits as a duck, in fear of being shot by the entire community*

All I am trying to say, lets work on making this message board better, instead of creating back ground channels. I do think it would be OK if agency boards where a seperate message board call next to newbies, and gumshoe, sleuthtalk. Where each agency gets 1 thread space. But ANYONE can read or post to it, also non agency members.
It remains to stand under the same rules and conditions as any of the boards now.

I agree that it would be nice to see more people discussing things here on the boards.

Adding an Agency section would be nice, but one thread per agency might get a bit out of hand too with some of the *ahem* larger agencies.

I think I also am just plain curious on what happens, what goes on in other agencies. I like watching the interactions and re-hashing of old ideas.

Maybe if there could be a visitor status for agencies? below rookie, no privledges except to view things? Solve that vouyeristic twitch ;)

I like visitor status. :)

Another idea that I brought up a long time ago was having a "friends of" situation. For instance where I have the right to jump in and out of Mojo to read their message board, but am disabled to play a game. On my detective page it would say "friend of mojo."

Also I think it would give a situation where agencies will start to inter-mingle a bit more. And you can see who is friends with whom.

Oh and Ran, I have visited a few agencies, the way that people play the game is the same.......but how their run their message boards and policies are really different.
