Recruitment board and recruiting

I noticed that everyone has different ways of doing their recruiting on the recruitment board. Some say "looking for agents" not much else, others give detailed descriptions. Also the agency descriptions don't reveal much, they are more a creative expression then anything else.

I have noticed that sometimes people join your agency, and from the get go it is already a bad fit. (For instance how much playing time someone wants have.) You often don't have time to interview someone in a detailed way. And you spend 5 days, spending a lot of time on a bad fit. The awkwarndess. And all the other things that could have been prevented by proper expectations. Like people that expect us to buy off their falses 2 times on their first day. :)

Recruitment ideas:
1. Have an additional format on the recruitment msg board. For instance the level of detective, if contacts are required, how many days online per week, cases played, rent required, faction standing, pass word sharing. Any perks like free equipment, free travel to agency destination. If there is something special set up for falses.
(This will really set apart agencies from each other.)

2. Have an additional info on the agency, at easy one page access. Super active, or not. Amount of treasure hunts won in the last month. If hanging out and being social is equally important as playing the game. A brief hello/bio/whatever of each member. I.e. a more detailed Agency page (like the detective page, that contains all sorts of stats about a single agent.) THis agency page could also include the want add, and they can apply on the detective page by sending private message.

3. Instead of an agent being able to receive an invite. For an agent also to apply. With on the receiving end options to: invite, decline, and save.

I am not sure if this is the way to go. But I just wanted to throw out there, that maybe some discussion about agency transparancy is handy. So my ideas are one way of doing that.

I think non subscribed players should be able to post. I'm not subbed YET, it will be maybe another week or two, but I've thought about joining an agency when I do and I'd like to be able to ask questions before hand.

Of course if each agency had it's own "page" on the forum, with details, maybe i wouldn't have to ask questions at all.

I have to agree that only subbed players should be able to post in the recruitment threads. Peter, if you have questions about agencies, you can always PM directors personally, or if they are general questions, post them in the newbie thread.

Maybe that before a non-subbed person visits the recruitment thread, or is able to post in it.....they are re-directed to a page that joining an agency requires a subscription if they still like the post to go live on the board or want to have it deleted.

I do think that non-subbed members should always have read access, no matter what. I think for some it would be a reason to subscribe when they see the recruitment board.

Still part of me thinks that someone who gets exited about hearing about agencies, carefully selecting an agency to join, to then find out that they need to sub to join.......is still the best marketing mechanism that we have pulling people over the line to sub.

The other part of me holds a pink neon sigh. lol

Exactly Jstkdn, they shouldn't be banned from reading, just posting. However we run into the problem again of those in agencies that don't have subscriptions, including some directors that won't be able to post either....

Maybe if the redirect page was IN flashing pink neon? :D

It's tight when it comes to non-subbers and recruitment threads. Why don't we just have an enter page that says in flashing pink neon:

"SUBSCRIBERS ONLY. ANYONE NOT SUBSCRIBED, PLEASE DO NOT POST IN THE THREADS. CONTAINS MATERIAL NOT SUITABLE FOR DETECTIVES WITHOUT SUBSCRIPTIONS."

Hey, it could work. Then we can make Ben use the flashing pink neon we've always wanted. :)

Although I repeatedly post CLOSED messages everyone seems to love my agencies so much they constantly flood our recruitment board. There needs to be a way to prevent people from getting into my topic so I don't have to send sorry messages so often.

Colonel Shanty, there's that sign saying only subscribed detectives, etc.. and unsubscribed people still join.
It would be hard when there are some agencies that are full of detectives without subscriptions, especially when those detectives are the directors. I suppose all these things will be worked out. But I do like the idea of a application form for new detectives. I had started pm-ing people who wanted to join to ask them a bit about themselves. I guess that would include what was stated above about how many times a week, etc...

Chelsea, you can always have a moderator delete it for you. Just include the exact thread name.

The solution could be to make the agency recruit board open for new posts from directors and officers subbed or not subbed. Only subbed detectives can answer a post.

The detective seeking page could be read by all, but only subbed detectives can post new messeges.
Directors who are not subbed but want to react, can use PM to talk with the detective.

I think all this sounds good, although I still want to see a picture of Jojo in his neon pink T-shirt.

In fact, I want to see a picture of Jojo; any will do!

I guess maybe I was just lucky when I joined my first agency. I joined the first one that responded to me, and it was a great fit. I am not sure I would have known exactly what I wanted or could offer when I joined, so I think no matter what excellent changes are made, there will still be some serendipity involved.

For example, some people get all excited when they are new and think they will play obsessively, all day and all night, every case they can get their hot little hands on. (And isn't that what many agencies are looking for? ; ) Later, real life intervenes or the excitement fades a little...meanwhile, people who say they can't play all their cases every day turn into obsessive sleuth hounds......etc.

And then there is just the question of getting along and liking each other. I have known some players who followed agency rules and expectations but just drove me nuts personally (probably mutual), and that can be hard to tell on first meeting.

Anyway, I still support the general trend of this thread. Can't hurt.

And there's always the hotornot approach, let's not forget! "Click here if you are interested in joining this agency." "Click here if you are interested in hiring this detective." Then only mutual matches are allowed to see each other's posts!

*realizes that after that last idea, she has now seriously compromised the possibility of anyone taking the rest of her post seriously*
