Ok I am still confused about these how do you get a standing? I am at 0 with all of them and I want to raise me standing how do i do it?

when you do a case the twist might be that one of the factions wants it to be solved (positive) and one wants it to go away (negative).

So if you are succesful in that case your standing with those factions will go up and down accordingly.

Oce you are in good with a faction, then you can visit them and see what they have to offer. You can do the "little jobs" to earn extra points with a faction you want to rise with.

Eventually over time you will want to be in good with all of the factions in turn to learn the various skills. That should wait till you have the full set of Smart and Interview (charm/tough) skills.

Those little jobs usually consists in answering questions related to famous detective novels. You need to get at least 2 out of 3 answers right. You'll learn that the internet is the best source of documentation imagineable...
