I read that some props increase the effectiveness of hypnotism. Does anyone know what they are and where to get them?

I read that Hypnotism helps to get something out of the subconcious. But what does that mean???

The reason you do not want this skill right away is two fold.

Like all the faction skills it takes both Skill point and Faction points to aquire them.

1 - Like all the faction skills it takes both Skill point and Faction points to aquire them. It costs in skill points, and those skill points get harder and harder to earn. So you want to use them to purchase all of the Smart and either Charming or Tough skills you can at first. The Interview skills (C/T) will give you more answers to your questions. Smart skills help you indentify evidence better, or find more to help you narrow down your choices. Hypnotism is a nice skill to have with the tougher cases that have longer suspect lists (9 or more) becasue it means you ask fewer people for motives.

2 - the reason many people are not thrilled with Hypnotism is that is only works sometimes. You need to get lucky and have the right gear on. Lock Picking or Underworld connections for example always work.

It is better that newer players worry about getting their basic skills first, rather than the factions special skills. As your experience goes up, skill points will be tougher to come by, and make it that much harder to get your basic skills, so its better to get them when you are new, rather than waiting to get them when you are more experienced. Thats what I think anyways :)

I just earned hypnotism and I am only ten days old, so I guess I'm in a good position to comment on the effect of the skill on new players. I had earned about nine skills before I got it.

Basically, every third suspect that I interview releases an extra name when I ask them who they think might be a suspect. I do hae some charm items, so I don't know the effect on someone without any at all.

I've been investigating some mysteries lately where the players only release a name or two when asked, so it's been a help for me.

It's not a useless skill, Freyja, but there are more productive skills to get first.

I see!
I thought that it wouldn't cost skill points. So, doing the 'little jobs' is enough to getting them.

Alright! I focus on the basic skills!

No one is saying that this skill (or any other faction skill) is'nt good.
The only reason we advice new players to wait is that normal skills are much more needed in the game then faction skills.

You can play without any faction skill. I just got my first faction skill few weeks ago! and look at my age :P

You will have troubles at hard levels without the basic smart and interview skills and skill points come very slow. So that is why we advice getting the basics first.

Many new players think the faction skills are very important cause they are called "special". This is misleading. The interview and smart skills will help you a lot more.
