Is success possible without joining an agency?

I wonder how successful individual players have been at sleuth? What frequent problems have individual players found that has stopped them from progressing? Have individual players gone to agencies over a small period of time?

I ask because my unpredictable, stupid work shifts (I'm very bitter) would render me unreliable to an agency.

Oh, and has anybody ran their own agency, with just them in it? Is that a workable idea? If not just for the case storage space for these long winter nights.

I say, if you can join an agency, do so.

You can get contact help, storage, items, and friends.

You don't have to join a competitive agency, but maybe a laid back one. They do exist.

Yes the cases are solvable if you are not in an agency. I was on my own for the first part of learning Sleuth to make sure I had a good grasp of how everything worked and that I liked it enough to invest in.

After joining an agency it is better. Depending on your desire to be involved you can log in and do some very helpful things in an agency in a few moments a couple of times a day.

I can see the apeal of the small one or two person agency also, but only after you have aquired a large enough bank account to ensure you will not be kicked out if you do nto get your cases done over a couple of days.

If you are interested, send me a PM and I will fill you in on life in Mojo, you might like it with us.

I decided not to join nor create an agency(Halo Detective Agency)and i'm a freelance detective. I do so much better on my own than with different people and i can make much more money on this path than w/an agency.

Trisha, the benefits of an Agency include:
1. Successful hunts bring in cash to everyone (since you are worried about money); you can't compete in hunts as a freelance. Yes, the travel costs can be expensive, but the prize (and often Missions you have attained) can offset this.
2. You can share cases and analyze each other's crime scene evidence. Thus you can solve higher-difficulty cases much easier and the experience and skill points come faster.
3. You can share cases so that other Detectives with different Contacts can check your evidence against suspects. I have found that this may indeed be the biggest benefit of being in an Agency. If sleuths in your Agency can check Notes, Footprints, Hair, and Threads without risk of clamming a townie, solving cases can be a breeze. I am able to solve cases that would normally be "above my head" in cities that my Agency does not reside in.
4. The Equipment Locker...'nuff said.
5. The teamwork is just plain fun!

I get what you're saying Ernest Ty. But since i'm not going to join in an agency and since i make money faster on my own so far, i like the pace i'm on right now. btw, if you're workingby yourself, you can still go to other cities and solve cases?
