I can't get suspects

For more than one case already, I can't get any suspects. Why? Because the other suspect, other than my client, clams up on me whenever I ask. Grr... Is there a possibility that the chances of this happening can be reduced, or at best eliminated?
Also, how useful is the lockpicking skill?

Read the Help File on Stress Detection. That will tell you how useful it is. Really.

If you are having a hard time at a certain level, it is an indication that you should be trying lower levels.
Don't get greedy with skill points. You may have been lucky and solved some hard cases, but it doesn't mean it will happen all the time.

Also, always remember to ask the suspect question first, before asking about alibi etc. Perhaps self-evident, but no one had mentioned it yet :)

Yeah, I eventually figured that one out the hard way. You can work around the lack of an alibi, but not the lack of suspects.
