As Charlie Cain sat in his new office in New York City he started to reminisce about his life and how he got to where he is today. It all started for him in 1915 when he lied about his age to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps. He had wanted to fight to test himself. Little did he know that " Sometimes you get what you wish for." as his father David Cain told him the day he shipped off for war.
As time went by he would prove himself time and again as a fighter. Dispite his small stature he was a ferocious fighter. It all came to a head from June 1-26 1918 in what is know as "The Battle of Belleau Wood" in France. There Charlie would prove himself a hero earning a Silver Star for his acts of heroism.
After the war had ended Charlie returned home. He had always felt his calling was to be a protector of the innocent. So he became a New York Police officer. Quickly rising in the ranks a star...
He was the youngest officer to be promoted to Detective on the force. Homicide is where his skill and attention to detail paid off. Then on that fateful day in August 1922 he landed a huge case.
" Margot Kilgore" he said remebering the name. She had been a young flapper caught up in a nasty affair with a State Senator. Her body was found in a dumpster on 15th Street. Charlie had followed the evidence straight back to the source of the crime.
"Senator Giamotti" Charlie said spewing the name out like just saying it had left a vile taste in his mouth. He was the man responsible for Charlie being framed for murder. The man who had ruined Charlie's once shining career. He had left Charlie's life shattered. But now Charlie was back in his city. A new agency, new friends, new family.
" I havent forgotten what you did to me, and I will get justice for that poor girl........and me." Charlie said placing a old newspaper photo of the senator on his case board.
"Ahem" a voice said pulling Charlie out of his daydream. (CONT.)

" She loved the Blue Lagoon down by the marina." Emily replied.
" Thanks for the help." Marc said and the two detectives left. Once out on the sidewalk they compared notes on Emily's demeanor. " I need to get over to the Morgue and see if I can examine the body." Charlie said. " Why dont you head down to the boardwalk and survey the area." He said to Marc. The two split up.
It took about 25 minutes to get down to the Morgue. Once there Charlie had to play it smooth...he hadnt been back in the city long enough to see if his old friend Dr. Otto Vladrinsky was still working as County ME.
" Can I help you?" asked a young nurse in her early twenties. " Uh hi, my name is Det. Cain I'm wondering if Dr. Vladrinsky is still in charge here?" Charlie asked.
" Yes...he is. Is he expecting you?" the nurse asked with abit of sarcasm.
" No. He isnt but if you could tell him that a Charlie Cain is here I'm sure he'd like to see me." Charlie said. " Sure sir just wait right here." She said as she headed into one of the autopsy rooms.

It didn't take longer than 20 minutes to get to the board walk. And that was just walking there. People were walking around in bathing suits and drinking whiskey and beer. Marc, on the other hand, wore charcoal gray double breasted suit with black pin stripes and his notorious black fedora. He stuck out like a sore thumb.
"Billy" wasn't hard to find. Marc was approached by a muscular red headed man.
"Want some stuff?" He asked.
"Stuff?" Marc replied raising an eye brow, "You must be Billy."
"You one of the feds?! I swear I didn't do anything wrong. I just deal that stuff. I don't do it!"
"Easy there Tiny," Marc said. "I'm not going to arrest you, although the reward isn't bad for bringing in a dirtbag like you. I just want to talk to you about a lady named Lucille Bradford."
"Lucille? Yeah, I know her. She in some kind of trouble?" He asked
"Lucille? Oh no, she was killed. Your name was brought to my attention as having a motive to kill her. I hear you two had gotten into a bad fight. So tell me, where were you about two days ago?"
"Two days ago? I was at home. Getting drunk."
"Getting drunk? You like to drink?" Marc said.
"Yes. I do...why?"
"Oh no reason. Say, Billy, is it? What do you say that you and I go take a nice little walk through board walk. Infact, let me by you a drink."
"A drink? What is this? Where are you going with this?"
"Relax..I just want to have drink with a good friend of mine."
Billy reluctantly agreed and the two went to the little bar in town.

The first round came and Marc had nothing while Billy downed them. The second round came and the same thing happened. After about 8 shots of gin, Billy became drunk. Drunk was good. Atleast it was for Marc. He knew that Billy was lying about his alibi. So he took him down to the bar to get him drunk and start talking.
"Now tell me, where were you two nights ago when Lucille was murdered."
"I was with......"
"With whom, Billy?"
"With.....with......"
"Stay with me, Billy" Marc said as Billy started to doze off.
"David.............David Carrrrrrrr.............zzzzzzzz"
Billy passed out.
"David Carr," Marc repeated to himself.
Marc got up and was about to leave when someone shouted.
"HEY! Get back here and pay the tab. That's $10!"
Marc slid the man twenty. "Keep the change." He left to go to the ME's office to find Charlie.
