You work your cases, solve them correctly, and do a favor every third case. Then, one lucky day, instead of giving you some interesting object, the townsperson you just did your favor for says something nice like "If you ever need any help, feel free to ask" (I forget exactly what), and voila, they get listed as your contact and never ever clam up on you again!
