Detective Biography
Frank Darwin was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania, to James Darwin and his wife, Lisa McLean, on October 10, 1899. He is renowned for his investigations of many of Pennsylvania's highest-profile murder cases.
Frank served seven years as a homicide detective, beginning in 1924, when he was assigned to the Department's Homicide Division. One of his first assignments was the notorious Red House murder, a case he worked on for three years. He became an authority on serial murders and worked 10 of them, including the 1930s serial killer Jerry Santiago, Night Walker Jake Bloom, the Lake Stranglers, the Camera Slayer, and the Dan Russo Highway Killer case. In the latter, acting on a tip, Frank tracked down the Allentown, PA truck driver and, on September 1, 1933, his team captured Bloom in the act of burying a victim. The killer had his murder tools in his car.
