Well here I am, two degrees and twenty-some years later, with nothing but a Lincoln in my pocket and an excessive penchant for sherry to show for it. Thanks a lot ma.
To give her some credit, I’ve had my fair share of ups and down. Just two years back, I had been sitting at Tricky’s buying rounds for friends, friends yet-to-be, and that damned dame while celebrating my new offer to lead the lab over at Columbia. Next thing you know, you’ve fallen head over heels with broad you thought you knew before getting hung out to dry for some stolen lab equipment like a freakin patsy. Am I vindictive? Psh. Might I have picked up a few shady skills to track down the son of a gun that took away everything I’d been working towards my whole career? I’ve learned that loose lips sink ships.
Speaking of ships, I heard from my old college roommate now overseas that he had some... connections in London that could help me get my life back on track. For the second time in my life, I took action before my mind could protest, and the next I knew I had snuck onboard a ship en route to London.
The last time I disregarded reason, I landed in some troubled waters. I hoped that this time around, the journey would be smooth sailings, both literally and figuratively. I may be smart, but clearly I hadn't learned my lesson.
