Detective Biography

(excerpt from the South China Morning Post)

COLONIAL OFFICIAL RESIGNS

A source at the Central Government Offices has confirmed that Peter Guillam, Head of the Defence Branch, tendered his resignation to the Governor earlier in the week. The Post understands that a replacement has yet to be appointed.

Born in Calcutta, Mr Guillam obtained a degree in History at Oxford before joining the Colonial Office in 1924. After postings in Penang, Salisbury and the British Guiana, he took up his position in Hong Kong in 1932, where he remained until his resignation. His motivations for stepping down from the Administration are unknown.

A popular presence at the Club and Happy Valley meetings, Mr Guillam has put himself out of public sight lately. The Post has not been able to contact him at his residence in Conduit Road, but former co-workers have speculated that his various visits to Shanghai may suggest he has taken up employment there, possibly at the H&S Bank. Meanwhile, an unnamed source at Imperial Airways has confirmed that Mr Guillam has become a frequent passenger on the flying boats to the subcontinent and onwards to England.

Colonial authorities have yet to issue a statement regarding Guillam's resignation, but an aide at Government House has told the Post that "the Colonial Office and the Governor are very grateful for his service to the Empire and they wish him every success in his future endeavours."
