Detective BiographySecond Generation Irish my father was, and in Scranton, PA, the standard line of work would be a flatfoot or an iron worker. He chose the former. Mother was a church-going tailor and charity volunteer. They made a fine pair - and me, as well. Although, always being one for the pretty girls, I followed in my father’s footsteps and became an officer of the law. Didn’t marry though. Saw too much worry in the eyes of my mother every night, for the risk of the job, and as he carried home the burden of his own brother’s troubles, before my uncle turned himself around. Now they are happily retired in the old homestead. As for me, I discovered too much red tape, combined with indifference and shakedowns in the force, over time. I figured I could get some real and unencumbered work done by striking out on my own. Took up my mother’s maiden name as my own surname and, now landed in London. Of course, that didn’t sit well with Da, but in his words, “If you’re going to put ‘em behind bars, son, may as well be the Brits”. I get a kick out of his old ways of thinking, but I’m happy to be here amongst a fine bunch of detectives. No, I’m still not married, or even thinking about it, but very much the “ladies’ man”. ;) There you have it. Nothing too remarkable about me! |
