Not many friends as a child, turns out nobody likes to play hide and seek someone who finds you in 20 seconds. High school wasn't much different, kids don't like other kids who ask the teach too many questions.

When the DA failed to put away the scumbag that killed his sister because the murder weapon mysteriously disappeared from the evidence locker. Everybody suspected Dirk when the suspect later turned up dead. The cops thought so too, they arrested Dirk and charged him with Murder. He was released a short time later when the DA couldn't find or manufacture enough evidence or witness to try him in court.
It was then he decided if he was gonna risk his skin to put away killers he was gonna do it on his own terms.
So now he works for the victims and the satisfaction of making the DA look like the fool he is.
