Detective Biography

When Tank Girl was 12 years old, her mom left home. Shortly after, her father was found dead from an accidental overdose of sleeping pills mixed with alcohol.

Left to fend for herself, she lived on the streets of Harlem for the next few years.

She got picked up on charges of prostitution when she was 15, and was placed in a state orphanage, where she befriended another girl named Julia. They became close and moved in together when they were released from the state's care.

Things went well for a time, but before too long, Tank Girl began to suspect that Julia was in trouble. She had involved herself with some unsavory people, and was spending more money than she had to spend. She would come home late at night or not at all, and a little line of needle marks was slowly marching its way up her arm.

When Tank Girl questioned her about the funding for her exhorbitance, Julia just laughed and said that her "friends" were taking care of her. Tank Girl was worried; she knew what kind of friends bought you clothes and drugs. She wanted to do something, but she didn't know what to do.

The subject was abandoned until Julia rushed into their apartments one day in a sweat.

"Tanky, do you have any cash?" she asked, panicked.

Tank Girl gave her what she could spare, but when she pressed her, she only said, "I need some money. I'm in trouble!"

Julia then promised to be back by evening and ran out the door.

Tank Girl never saw Julia again.

Tank Girl went to the police and told them there was a murder, but they took her report halfheartedly. No one cared about a couple of reformed whores of no means, with no family.

Disallusioned with the police, Tank Girl went to work finding Julia's killer. She had few contacts, but she made good use of them. With a lot of work and a little luck, Tank Girl managed to collect enough witness evidence to put the murderer away.

From then on, she devoted herself to training as a detective-- hiring herself out to those in need of her services, honing her forensic skills, and gaining contacts in the city.
