Detective Biography

Raised in the Big Apple, with my mother and her sister, both French and hopeless, I learned how to fend for myself in no time. I learned the ways of the street by the many 'errands' I ran out there, and the ways of the upper class by watching and studying.
That paticular day, I had barely dragged myself off the couch of my apartment and gotten to the office two blocks away when they walked in. At first they were suprised, seeing a woman turn out to be the PI they'd come to see. I must have been a sight to anyone- underfed, shabby, black clothes, a ciggarete in one hand and the news paper in the other. My office wasn't the cleanest, either: It was dry and smokey, with gray walls and dark wooded furniture, a black trench coat on one of the two chairs besides mine. I was early in the morning, and I wasn't quite awake, but they had a case, so I stood up and welcomed them in, waiting for the story, and more important, the cash.
Big mistake, idiot.
