Detective Biography
The night was a stink choked wet, like the grease-trap oil slick behind Sami's Greek Restraunt.
I had been sitting on the window sill listening to the sound of one hand clapping when the blower rang.
She said she was in trouble...said that she didn't have anyone else to turn to.
I told her that my office hours were from 9 to 5, that I am a surly bastard and if her money was the right shade of green and thick enough to even out the wobbling leg on my desk that we could talk turkey.
I shouldn't have hung up, I shouldn't have let her go on that way. She had some information that would have kept me on the force. Instead I get a call the next day saying there's a puddle of blood, a note to my partner and a whole lot of evidence pointing to a first class mutt. Me.
I guess I was lucky, I was able to walk out with my seat mildly gummed and a one way ticket to palookaville. But I'm still swinging and it's gonna be a long time before I'm knocked out.
Anyway, like I was saying, I don't handle divorce or strippers and I like my cash up front.
