Detective Biography

The sweat pouring down my forehead made a sly mockery of the rain streaming down the window to my office. I'd been working deep into Sunday Night, pushing myself harder and harder, swept up in the best kinda caffeine high; I couldn't've slowed down even if I'd wanted to. I pushed on blindly, even though I hadn't the damndest clue how it would all end.

Who was I kidding -- I knew exactly how it would end. The same as it always did. Some broad, laid out, slowly leaking onto the carpet while I try to get my head around the hows & whys of her winding up that way. Me, tired as all hell; so tired it feels like my bones have died inside me -- but at the same time, feeling like this is the way things should be; like more than any other time or place on earth, this is where I'm meant to be, doing what I need to be doing.

I lived for that feeling. Thrived off it, like the worst kinda junkie.

I tell ya, Ms. Night was the best damned secretary I ever hired.
