Detective BiographySipping my coffee, I noticed the furtive glances that came my way every now and then. Very few could get coffee in the bar and most knew it was a gift from the Triads for a few favors I had done. My main obligation was not to ask questions as to the coffee's origin, although I was fairly certain it came directly from Coffee Arabica in Cairo, smuggled in by pirates. As I sat comfortably in my silk fighting jacket and black stilleto boots I was aware of several patrons slowly shifting away from me. The dragon of the Triads on my jacket made them nervous. Good. More disturbing to the bumbling drunks was the tigers eye ring that winked at them with each sip of coffee. To be associated with the Tigers of Shangri La was to be feared. Eve, my faithful Chihuahua, lifted her head as a man walked toward me. She looked as fierce as her three pounds would allow in the minature silk fighting jacket I had Penelope Pins sew for me. The Triads had been amused and given me the necessary fabric. Even though my status with them had declined, they understood I was a collector and lover of books. To get my hands on the books scattered throughout many cities, I had to do favors for those less inclined to favor the Triads. Reading the note the man had left I smiled. Ah the Prince calls. Another villian, another day. Tossing some coins on the bar, Eve under my arm, I went to book passage to Shangri La. |
