Detective Biography

Being the son of an Admiral and the grandson of a Field-Marshal, it was inevitable that the Captain would enter the British Armed Forces. Foresaking his father's love of the sea, he instead followed his grandfather into the army, his heart firmly set on becoming the youngest ever Field-Marshal.

Unexpectedly, though not undeservedly, he did not match the high-ranking achievements of his ancestors. A momentary lapse of judgement led to an unfortunate mishap involving a squirrel, a mosquito net and his Commanding Officer's private bathroom, which sadly put paid to any chances of promotion to the upper echelons of which he had dreamed for so long. Disillusioned by his shattered hopes, the Captain (for such was his rank) demobbed himself and quit the British shores, seeking a new life across the waters.

Having spent much of his army life in intelligence, it was only natural that he should turn to detection as his new career. Using the last of his inheritance from his recently deceased grandfather, he set up an office in New York, determined to put the past behind him and continue in service, albeit service of a different kind.

A shock was in store, however. His privileged upbringing and the discipline of the army was no preparation for life on the streets of The Big Apple. His smart appearance and charming turn of phrase, particularly his penchant for quoting English verse, were a natural target for New York's roughest citizens. Beginning with taunts such as 'that toffee-nosed Limey', the Captain found himself having to deal with further and further abuse, which eventually progressed to physical violence.

As it happens, the abusers were in for a shock themselves, as the Captain's suave exterior belied a hidden talent. He proved far more adept with his fists than was expected, having been trained in the art of pugilism from his first days at Eton. The sheer brutality of his controlled pummelling led to new taunts, such as: 'he may have the manners of an English gent, but that Captain has the wildness of a neanderthal'. The attempts at physical harm soon died off; the name, however, stuck. Indeed, it has stuck for so long that no one can remember Captain Caveman's true name - even he no longer uses it.

The Captain has always sworn that he would never return to England, the land of his disgrace. Lately, however, he has received news that his father is seriously ill. Will he return to take his inheritance and title? Or will the love of his new life retain a stronger pull on his heartstrings? Only time will tell...
