For all who wants to know how the faction skills work, I report an old jstkdn post:

Hypotism: each case some suspects you can hypnotize in giving more suspects. Which means you have to ask less questions to the suspects.

Pugilism: enhances tough.

Pick pocketing: allows you to keep the money of the client is the guilty one.

Surveillance: you can hide outside of one suspects house, and sometimes get the answer to an extra question.

Underworld connection: for that escaped suspect thing.

Safe cracking: only useful if you are in an agency. Allows you to take the last key in treasure hunts that involves keys.

A big "thank you" to jstkdn for this.

Thanks for putting it all in one place, jstkdn and An. I would add:

Hyponotism: Is a charming skill that works by chance. It will be used on your behalf automatically each time you ask a suspect about others with a motive, and the chance of success increases if you are wearing charming gear while you do your questioning.

Pugilism: Works automatically to increase the chance level of tough interviewing skills, both interrogation and intimidation, by 10.

Pick Pocketing: Also happens automatically once you learn the skill.

Surveillance: Can be used once per case only, and you decide when to use it. It also is a matter of chance whether it works or not. This chance is enhanced by the level of smarts gear you are wearing.

Underworld Connections: This always works.

Safe Cracking: This also always works, although only in a key hunt, of course.

You are welcome.

Man this is a painful reminder as to how bad of a memory I have, when people quote old posts of mine.....9 out of 10 times, I don't even remember them!!!! :)

I would like to add here that faction skills are less important in the game then "normal" skills. Only buy them after you have smart and interview skills.

I agree with reda and would emphasize interviewing skills even before smarts skills, although getting /some/ smarts skills before all the interviewing skills are complete is helpful.

By interviewing skills we mean tough: Intimidation and Interrogation, charming: Sweet Talking and Rule Bending. Focus on one set before the other, and when that set is complete, focus on smarts and possibly even a faction skill or two before worrying about the opposite quality. (IMHO, of course!)

I agree with Moonshh.
If you've the charming interviewing skill, go for hypnothism, if you're a tough one, go for pugilism.

What level do you have to get to with the faction in order to learn the skill?
15-20-30? Thanks.

I just got the skill under world connections from the eastern triads. What I want to know is how is this skill useful? Only when someone goes missing? Does it enhance my very tough skills? Can it help me with the feature stories?

All it does is bring back a suspect who has gone into hiding. Less running around trying to find out which townie knows where they are. It was one of the last faction skills I got, and I didn't think it would really rock my world, but I *love* it now!

As for featured mysteries, no idea if it works there. Might depend on the FM.
