when someone says that a suspect thinks they know who the murderer is, does this mean they suspect someone, or that they witnessed something?

There were two recent threads that I think answer this rather well. Here are the links.

and

Hope that helps. :)

those links describe what it means when someone hasn't seen or heard anything, but it doesnt say anything about if they think they know who it is. thanks anyway.

It can be either. I usually ask that individual if they suspect the most likely individual to see if I can get Witness Evidence (WE) from them to build my case. I have had murderers try and throw suspicion off of themselves by saying that too though.

"The ones that do know something can be misleading, they know or saw something but this may not be the gulilty person some times a person who's name you we'rnt given by a townie knows who the gulity person is"

In other words they are giving eyewitness evidence. Just keep in mind that you either need to have a false alibi or a second eyewitness in order to be certain you have the killer. Some of the suspects either lie, or are just wrong in thier observations.

The tail end of the conversation is about eyewitness accounts too.
