when you are fired from an agency for no reason given just out of the blue,do you get to take the items you put into the locker with you or just chalk it up to experience?

Have you tried talking to your old director? It is a rare thing to be fired for no reason. It may not be something you consider a good reason, but usually there is something.

Policies regarding whether you get to take your equipment when leaving (or kicked out) vary by agency. I also would encourage you to talk to your old director(s).
