I'm still a newbie, but I guess Research is too good to be left to the end. It can pull down a suspect right in the beginning of the case! Plus you save a question from this one (since you don't have to ask for an alibi)... I guess Research can be learned right after the base ones... (it's just my opinion, plz don't crucify me...) :))

What type of data does Lockpicking yield usually?

It will either tell you a suspect's alibi or it will tell you who else they suspect.

Research saves you more than one question, Iury. If you've excluded someone with research, then you don't need to ask the Physical Evidence guys or the other suspects about them.

Lockpicking gives you up to two pieces of information per case. It will either reveal an alibi (or lack thereof, if you find "nothing of value") or other suspects with motives. I mention this because it actually replaces the motive question, not the question about asking if they suspect anyone.

Research is a great skill, but I would still recommend getting all the Sweet Talking you can (assuming you're charming) before either Research or Lock Picking.
