Messing up cases wont help, just do the cases the DA want and quit the others like reverend said. Dont just falsley accuse in cases cause 3 false will retire your detective - you better just quit the CN cases.

As for the skills, it all depends on your startegy. If you rely on wintness evidence you should get adv. interview skills first. If you rely on PE you should get those and research first. I personally would get sweet talk first, but there are great detectives here that did it the other way around (by getting all smart skills first) and that works too.

Thanks all. Actually I haven't been messing up cases. I meant that I've been messing up those questions.

That's another story entirely then - missing the questions for LCN won't help your DAB rating as far as I know (I'm fairly sure it's like not doing the LCN questions at all), but answering the LCN questions right will lower the DAB rating.

Andy - it looked to me that messing up LCN did improve the other 2. are you sure it doesn't work?

Tbd, according to my experience it won't raise one faction rating if you mess up on another faction's questions.

tdb, you are wise to want to get basic hair and thread, especially if you prefer to solve your cases using physical evidence, rather than eyewitness accounts. You will find cases where you have no evidence at all from time to time if you do not have these 2 skills. While upgrading your interview skills should remain a priority, basic thread and hair are just as important. (I prefer skores over kit kat as well!)
