Just out of curiosity, has anyone been booted from the net while playing Sleuth? I am a paid subscriber, but, I have been booted twice and it has taken a long time to regain DSL connection.

As I build internet networks for a living. I would say it is highly unlikely that Sleuth ruined your DSL connection. It does sometimes happen you get kicked out of Sleuth because of your connection, or maintenance.

It is highly probably (probably actually the case) your ISP is causing this with a software or hardware problem. Your ISP should be able to check if the problem lies within your box, everybody in your node, region etc. They have a way to measure or monitor these things. (if they are at all a savvy provider.)

As this is rather indirectly related to the game, and not about content of the game, I am moving this to Gumshoe.

Well, it seems that my Internet options settings keep miraculously getting changed, which is causing some of the problem. I didn't say ruined, I just said booted. I was wondering if this was a fluke or if anyone else had any problems.

That sounds a lot like some sort of spyware. These spyware things always try to change the Internet Options, most notably your starting Homepage. Or it could also be a virus.

Perhaps you might like to try running a system scan with your Anti-Virus program, and also an ad-removal program.

Yeah, it does sound like spyware. Try SpyBot and Ad-Aware. (Google them)

can spyware or a virus prevent you from doing a scan?
I have similar problems and when I tried to scan my computer suddenly re-booted itself!
Weird.

Yes, I had this problem with a virus, if I recall correctly. I assume it can also be done with spyware, although never heard of it, or experienced it. I suppose it can also be a glitch in your operating system.

I believe it can, Sam. After all, viruses are written by people - programmers/hackers - and sometimes they will try to come up with viruses that deliberately stop the Antivirus program, such as preventing you from making a system scan.

In some cases, the Antivirus program will lose the battle and then you'll have to reformat your hard disk and reinstall the OS.
