There will be 4 activities this week. All events start on Thursday, August 18, at 12:00 AM, SST. Three of the four events are continued from last week. Good luck. ;-)

1. Treasure Hunts - Week 2
This event lasts two weeks. You were given the instructions for this last week, so if you need to review them, please read the Second Week's Activities' thread. The scoring system HAS BEEN REVAMPED. All hunts are now worth 10 points, not 100. Teams receive 3 participation points for the FIRST six hunts they open and do one favor for in the correct categories. Once you have completed six hunts in the same categories as before, YOU ARE DONE. This activity ends on Wednesday, August 24th.

2. Scavenger Hunt - Week 2
This is the SECOND part of this event. You have one week to complete this activity. Please send a screenshot of your locker to Riza Hawkeye for verification purposes by Thursday, August 18, 12:00 AM, SST. All items on List #1 are INVALID after Wednesday, August 17, 11:59 PM, SST. You will be given a second list on the Sleuth Talk board. All items MUST BE COLLECTED IN ORDER, and screenshots must be sent to Riza as you collect each item. You have until Wednesday, August 24, 11:59 PM, SST, to complete this list.

3. Role Playing Essay Contest - Week 2
This event lasts two weeks. You were given the instructions for this last week, so if you need to review them, please read the Second Week's Activities' thread. Essays are due Wednesday, August 24, 11:59 PM, SST.

4. Twist/Closer Contest
This is a *TEAM* writing contest. One writer for your team is already assuming most of the responsibility for the Role Playing Essay, so DO NOT BUG THEM about this. The other 3 members of the team will submit ONE entry. Together, you will submit the idea and writing for ONE complete twist (and accompanying closer). Ideas and writing must be as fully detailed as possible. You must include descriptions of the twist's effects if necessary (gain faction standing, trigger Larry the Toe, etc).

By the way, I can all tell you that I've sobered up and will be providing ice cream again... just after I've emptied my stomach into the ocean *rushes to the port side of the ship and hurls over the railing*

I haven't read the results yet so the outcome has no bearing on my comment.

I agree with badass. I know I had to cut material from my entry that would have improved it *and* it still would have come in under the apparent ACTUAL limit of 5000 characters. I'm sure there were others.

Those who went over but remained within the actual limit of within 5000 characters shouldn't be penalized but neither should those who cut excellent material to come in under the ANNOUNCED limit.

I know my opinion counts for nothing but IMHO this event should be removed from the scores. It's simply not fair, or within the Olympic spirit, to hold different teams to different standards.

And that's exactly what happened here. If there is clarification of the rules of should be announced here and a PM alerting people that there has been a change should be sent to at least one member of each agency.

I'm happy for whoever won, whether they obeyed the STATED rules or not. But this event should be removed from the scoring and simply seen as an unscored community building event.

I'm sure that won't happen but as I've said once before in this competition, I certainly hope events and rules will be more clearly stated or that they will be adhered to by everyone, including judges.

If only one team meet all STATED criteria, they should win by default. But in actuality this event should be thrown out entirely.

My comment was in regards to the writing portions of this week's events which haven't been posted. I'm still pissed that different teams were given different standards and hope that the word of someone who wasn't a judge is disregarded as that would be the same as me telling sometime it was okay to go over.

Breit's word isn't law and shouldn't be seen as such. The judges' word is.

And as for disqualification, shouldn't that be the judges' decision?

So it looks like some of those who received PMs regarding the proposed fix haven't forwarded it to their teammates.
In the interest on everyone having the same information I'm sharing it here. Riza wants to know if we go through with this plan or handle it a different way. First, her message:

"So here's the plan. I'm going to survey all the teams. If at least 3 of them say they are willing to revise and resubmit their pieces, then we'll scrap the original entries and use the new ones. Except this time, there will be explicitly stated word limits and content guidelines. And I will be running it."

Here are my thoughts:

The proposed "fix" of a rewrite is no fix at all.
the contestants all put a LOT of work into their submissions. we shouldn't have to do that work over again, while trying to do this week's events as well.

Here's my suggestion:

Maybe those who were within the stated limit should be given the chance to submit their ORIGINAL entries (as long as it's under 5000 characters and those who went over shouldn't.

That way, the event would count so the work put into them wouldn't be disregarded.

Those who wrote according to the stated rules wouldn't have to do a complete rewrite. And those who went over wouldn't be penalized.

If three teams agree to Riza's suggestion, it will be implemented. If at least three teams do not vote yes, I hope they will implement my suggestion. It seems the most fair way to deal with this.

I am getting to get at play two teams to vote no.

It is my understanding the Twister/Closer competition is a separate event from the role playing essay contest, so can we expect to see the scores on those any time soon?

Thank you.

Mate, what you and Sindy do in the privacy of your own home is between you and whichever deity you rely upon.
