The Arch Villain Hunt

Choose two detectives from your team. Those two players will do an Arch-Villain hunt, with the usual rules applying for a tournament. Both detectives have until Wednesday, August 10, to capture their villains. Hunters may travel up to Shangri-La the previous night (Wednesday, August 3), but ANYONE who starts a hunt before Thursday, 12:00, SST, will be disqualified (so make VERY sure you don't do it). Scores will be determined on a team basis, and by days, not time (people overseas won't have to be up at odd hours of the night to deal with Server times this way). Anyone traveling through Cairo MUST either post it on the boards, or send a PM to Riza or Breit announcing that they are (we WILL be verifying that). Sidekick cases are banned, as usual. Apartment and Agency gear is legal. If, for some reason, there are technical issues with the servers, all hunters will be given extra time to complete their hunts.

An individual hunter's number of days will be counted up, added to his/her teammate's number of days, and the lowest combined sum will be the winner. The first TEAM to capture their villains will receive 10 points. Second team to capture will receive 7. Third will receive 5, and fourth will receive 3. All teams receive 3 participation points each for each AV hunter on their team (I.E. - 6 points total).

If, for some reason, you guess wrong, and fail a hunt, DO NOT QUIT. Go back to Shangri-La and start over. BOTH members of the team must capture in order to receive placement points. So keep going (even if you takes you four times, voice of experience talkin' here ;-).

The Cairo Scavenger Hunt

For the other two detectives from your team, you will be going to Cairo (big surprise there ;-). You need to complete ten favors from EACH of the townspeople in Cairo, in no particular order. Once you have completed a favor from a townsperson, you MUST make a screenshot at the end (completion) of the favor, like this:

For the Cairo hunt:

Two people HAVE to compile a total of ten solved favors (one for each of the ten townspeople), take a screenshot at the end of each SOLVED favor, and at the end of their hunt, send said list of screenshots to Riza Hawkeye for verification. 2 people, 10 favors between them. Repeats and failed favors do not count. First team to finish wins. Hope that explains things a little bit easier. ;-)

As for the screenshot, (and I have no idea what the technical definition of a screenshot actually is), I mean to copy and paste the last 2-3 lines of a successfully solved favor case (the part where it says the Music Teacher, Angela Caban, in New York, for example, is very grateful that you helped her, and she has awarded you a pair of Polka Dot Pumps.)

Helen does make a very good point that there is the possibility for shenanigans if you just copy the first line, without the reward.

SO. LISTEN UP ALL TEAMS!!! PLEASE INCLUDE THE REWARD ITEM ON YOUR SCREENSHOT.

While I know that *AAAALLLLLLL* of you are working pursuant to the Code of Conduct, and doing something like cheating would NEVER cross your minds, please remember, we do have people monitoring your teams. You may be getting a PM from a Judge at a moment's notice, asking for an invite to your Agency for a surprise inspection. So please, let's play fair, everyone, okay?? ;-)

I will be sending PMs to everyone about the change.

Also, I apologize for the apparent misunderstanding in my initial instructions. I hope the above notes make things a bit easier to understand. ;-)

Thank you!! ;-)

And no, Helen, they're not stupid questions. Thanks for asking them. ;-)

These unannounced visits are kinda creepy. Like the IRS doing an audit of your company 😃

Serious now, there's no way to monitor cheating. Unless someone can delve into the memory log of your account. Not sure how time consuming that is.

Nah I wouldn't ask Ben to do a data dump of all the favours solved over the course of the week into a spreadsheet for me... would I?

Wait, no, then I couldn't cheat, I knew there was a hitch in that...

You'd probably be flooded in favors by then Squirrel - I wouldn't want to imagine how many favors have been completed in a week's time.

Not to mention you gotta sort them by names, times, dates... *starts to sob*

"Phew," said Dany with feeling, "that was a hell of a task."

"Mind your language," said Paranoid nervously, looking over his shoulder. "You never know who is listening."

"Yes," Dany murmured to herself, "there must be a reason why they call you Paranoid."

"Did you say something?" asked Paranoid suspiciously.

"No, not a word. So...?"

"Yes, I agree, it's been difficult to come to a decision. All the agencies did a wonderful job. The amount of writing..."

"...was breathtaking." Dany finished the sentence.

"I was going to say 'hurt my eyes', but sure, let's go with that."

"Excellent role playing..."

"Wonderful websites..."

"Great mottos..."

"A real team spirit..."

"Yes, yes, we could go on till midnight, but time is getting on. The deadline is on Wednesday. We must report our findings."

"All right, here goes..."

........... OFFICIAL RESULTS .............

1st place: Rick's Cafe Americain
2nd place: Feminine Assassins
TIE 3rd place: A Race to Adeventure
Chariots of Fire

Both Rick's Cafe Americain and Feminine Assassins created entertaining and comprehensive role playing message boards that show the imagination and creativity of their authors. Both websites are excellently written and visually appealing, and in both agencies there is a sense of teamwork and good communication between the members. The decisive factor in favour of Rick's Cafe Americain was an engaging backstory which enabled the judges to get a better overall feel of how the agency was planning to move forward throughout the competition. All the same, it was a difficult decision to make.

The other two agencies didn’t make the judges’ job any easier. On one hand, Chariots of Fire have an informative website, message boards that lean toward solid planning, and yes, an 'Olympic-like' name. A Race to Adventure has an entertaining role-playing message board, a well-stocked equipment locker for all contingencies, and we liked that they offered us a press release. Considering all those things, sharing third place seemed to be the fairest solution.
"We should mention something about our next visit," Dany said, looking up from her Rasputin's Egg.

"You really have a thing for those, don't you?" sighed Paranoid.

"What? Oh. Well... force of habit."

"So, the one thing I found disappointing," Paranoid continued, "was that I didn't get much of an 'Olympic' feel. Don't get me wrong, I knew I was in a competition, but the occasional homage would have been nice. I was so pleased to see those identity cards on Rick's website, it was the first time I really felt the 'Olympics'."

"Yes, but people were focussed on 'teamwork' and 'role-playing', and it is the 'Sleuth Noir' Summer Games after all. People did what they know how to do best."

Paranoid shook his head. "You're too soft-hearted. I suppose at the very least we'll be looking for solid contributions from all members of the Agency in question. Teamwork, teamwork, teamwork."

"Yes", Dany agreed meekly.

Congratulations to everyone and especially Rick's Cafe Americain for reaching 1st place in this first event.

I must say, even I had my doubts, but deep inside, I knew Rick's Cafe would win this challenge. Too bad Squirrel didn't put up a betting shop, otherwise, I'd have been rolling in the dollars by now...

Good job on the team from Rick's Cafe. One glimpse at their website told enough that a decent amount of time and effort was put in there. But I also have to say that I found the opening picture of the Feminine Assassins very apropos.

We at Chariots of Fire honored the spirit of the Olympics by abiding the ancient old adage that participation trumps victory.
