Oh Belgium, why did you let me down. I should have known that playing on a 13th was a bad idea.

Belgium - Italy 0-2

I really only want England to lose coz you know the newspapers have all the headlines ready: England completes Brexit out of Europe etc Iceland freezes England out of Europe. etc etc

Ironically England-Iceland is the only fixture with 2 teams that are not in the EU. The same could be said about Wales vs N Ireland but since a majority in N Ireland voted to stay in the EU it doesn't entirely qualify as a non-EU member game.

ICELAND - ENGLAND 2-1 !!!!!

Where to begin ... I think it's fantastic that players with names such as Finnbogason, Skulason and Traustason are still in the tournament. I particularly like the name Skulason which is close to Skullason or Son of the Skull. If the Icelanders could manage to knock France out of it's own tournament the fun would be endless.

Make no mistake, when these players return home they will be hailed as nothing less than immortal legends. What a stunt for a small nation with a population about 5% of that of London.

Anyhow, this is how the quarter finals look like;

Poland vs Portugal
Wales vs Belgium
Germany vs Italy
France vs Iceland

Talk about a bookmaker's wet dream ...

"Iceland pulls off one of the most astonishing results in European soccer history, knocking England out of Euro 2016."

As soon as I saw the headline I knew I needed to check here. :) I'm so happy for Iceland. Not necessarily because of any particular affinity, but because you know they had to work their asses off just to get to the Euro, but to come this far?! Skill, talent, hard work, persistence, and not a small amount of luck are responsible for that. I can't imagine what kind of homecoming they'll receive!

You would be hard pressed to name one of the Iceland players out of the tip of your head. But they have proven that the whole can be more than just the sum of it's parts.

I could pretty confidently get the last syllables of their last names! -son. There's only one whose name doesn't end in -son. His ends in -sen! But I think they have absolutely proven they are a fantastic team made up of amazing players with phenomenal coaching.

Tell you what - besides England embarrassing themselves (again), that's a great last 8. A healthy mix of WTF's and dead cert's.

Right. If you look at the world cups or European cups of the last decades the winner always comes out of this pool of nations;

Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain, Italy, France

Can it be something else for a change?

Yeah, Liechtenstein!! ;-D ;-D ;-D

But since that's not happening....

I'm rooting for either Poland (Poland always seems to get beat up by everyone), France (they've had a hard year), Belgium (hard year for them too), and Iceland (yeah, I'm a sucker for an underdog just like you guys ;-). So.

Who's it gonna be....;-D
