See if there is interest for this.

1. Each day I will post 10 questions, at random times of the day.
2. Each Quiz runs exactly 24 hours.
3. The first person that has all 10 questions right, wins. Or if no one has all questions right, the best one wins.
4. You can only post answers ONCE for the same quiz.
5. No cash involved. Just glory. :)

Okay, here's the answers:

1. The seven classifications are Working, Herding, Sporting, Non-Sporting, Hound, Terrier, and Toy.

2. The largest breed is the Irish Wolfhound, which can be up to 9 feet tall when it stands on its hind legs.

3. The smallest breed is the Chihuahua, averaging 4-6 pounds.

4. False. Dalmatians are born completely white, Their spots, either black or liver (brown) appear starting when the puppy is about 10 days old.

5. The only breed of dog that doesn't bark is the Basenji. It makes a kind of yodeling sound.

6. The technical term for a dog's whiskers are vibrissae.

7. The only dog that does not have a pink tongue, according to several sources I've looked at, is the Chow. The American Kennel Club says its tongue is deep purple to black. It also does note, however, that the Shar-pei has a bluish-black tongue also, so I'll accept that too.

8. Recent research has shown that both dogs and cats can see various shades of yellow and blue, as well as in grayscale. While their color vision is no where near as acute as that of humans, they do see colors. Unfortunately, both species do seem to be red-green color-blind, as some people are.

9. Bloodhouse were first officially noted as being used for tracking purposes in 1805 in England. The Thrapton Association for the Prevention of Felons used them to track convicts and burglars. I'll give credit to Miss Kimberly for being so close.

10. The international headquarters of the Guide Dogs for the Blind is located just north of San Francisco, California, in a small town called San Rafael, California. They have two training centers for their dogs, one in San Rafael, and the other just outside of Portland, Oregon.

BONUS -- The term "dog days of summer" has been in use since Roman times, and has very little to do with dogs. As Squirrel noted, it is tied to Sirius, the Dog Star. Romans believed that the star added to the heat from the sun in the summer, from July 3 to August 11.

They called this time "caniculares", meaning "days of the dog".

And with that, Miss Kimberly gets the Blue Ribbon and a Trophy full of doggie biscuits for getting 9 out of 11 answers right.

(Looks down at the agency's faithful companion, Karma, who is flopped on the floor waiting patiently for a treat with a mournful expression on her face.) "So whaddya think, sweetie? Did we give the kitties a run for their money?" WOOF! (Chuckles.) "I'll take that as a yes. How bout some of that nice chopped lamb that Sylvia sent over, just for you? How's that sound?" HHOOOWWWLLLLL!! (Follows a galloping bloodhound out the door towards home...)

Sheepishly I turn to my faithful companions Buck and Penny and tell them we did well. As always, they crawl out from under my computer desk for a pat on the head. Providing them with one of the doggie biscuit rewards they head back under barking back a thanks to all.

Thanks for the great quiz. Certainly beat the ironing I was suppose to do!

Oops -- Number 1 should read the Name coffee, not of coffee. and number 6 should read How long has. Guess I should have actually drank my first cup before typing.
