This is a thread about music. All kinds of music: classical, jazz, blues, rock, folk, film music... any kind you can think of. The questions can be about anything related to music: about composers, musicians (performers), styles/periods, musical forms, musical instruments, or about particular pieces or songs.

I'll start with a person.

Could it be Handel's "Messiah" chorus?? ;-)

It's not a part of an opera, it IS an opera. I'm sorry for unintentionally misleading you, I probably described it in a cflumsy way, but it's difficult to define opera without saying too much.

It was composed in the 19th century, the vocals are sung by men and women, and the singers are accompanied by an orchestra.

It was not composed by Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt or Handel.

Now THAT'S a very good way for me to have heard (of) it...I have a really shocking knowledge of all things TV...especially, kids' shows :) Now that's what happens when you don't feel like taking the remote from your baby cousin, and end up watching her gibberish :D

Bugs Bunny? I don't think so, but can't be sure.

It was composed by Verdi.

Um. Can I remember any Verdi operas without Googling? Let's see. La Traviata? I think there's one called Force of Destiny but I'm not sure how that comes out in Italian. Il Trovatore? Aida? (think that's Verdi but am now doubting myself more and more with every title I come up with) Rigoletto? (really can't remember who wrote that one but it's worth a try...)

It is Aida, one of Verdi's most famous operas, along the ones you mentioned. In 2013 the world celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner, two of the greatest opera composers of all time, who were arch rivals in their lifetimes.

Bravo, Cordy!

I confess that the reason I remembered Aida is that I got taken to see a production as a teenager and totally disgraced myself by getting a fit of the giggles just as someone was about to be sentenced to an unpleasant death... :)

OK, how about a song?

Is it "Happy Birthday"?

Just kidding. Is it rock, pop, or classical?
