Would you guys be interested in something along the same line? And perhaps a bit more Sleuthy :).
The object of the game is to find a film Noir character, who doesn't necessarily need to be a leading character, but not a third footman either, if he doesn't happen to be the murderer :). We need to guess the character's name and the movie he or she appears in. Googling is permitted, and I am the first to admit that I don't remember the names of characters in movies I saw years ago. In any case, it won't help if we don't know what we are looking for. The films should be "real" Noir movies, filmed not earlier than 1940 and not later than 1960.
I'll start:
I am a woman :).

Hmmm again. The movie isn't directed by Alfred Hitchcock, but is it directed by "somebody like him"? In what way "like him"? A famous director, yes. Born outside the US, yes. Like Hitchcock, he is one of my favourite directors. But I'd say that the similarities stop here :).
Affirmative:
1. The mysterious character is a woman
2. Filmed in a black and white movie
3. A major star
4. American
5. Filmed in 1950
6. The male co-star is American
7. The movie is set in a city
8. There is a murder in the film
9. Murder is a consequence of events
10. The movie is set in a specific city
11. Directed by a famous director born outside the US
Negative:
1. Male
2. European
3. Ilsa Lund ("Casablanca")
4. There isn't a prominent animal feauture
5. The movie is not set in the country
7. Doll Conovan ("The Asphalt Jungle")
8. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock
9. Set in New York
10. Set in San Francisco
11. Set in Washington DC
12. No happy ending
Phew! I hope I answered all your questions. If not, ask again :).

Could the actress either be Betty Grable in Wabash Avenue, or Judy Holliday in Born Yesterday??

Actually, Breit, you should say Ruby Summers in "Wabash Avenue" or
Emma 'Billie' Dawn in "Born Yesterday".
Remember? We're looking for characters.

How about Paula Gibson (Pamela Britton) in "D.O.A."?
No! Wait! How about "Sunset Boulevard" - Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) There's a classic, set in Hollywood and directed by Austrian Billy Wilder.

Yes, it is Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) in "Sunset Boulevard", one of the best movies of all time :). Congratulations, Peter!

Thank you Lady D. I apologize for the tardy arrival - RL and all - but I am here again, proud to have found your character, and ready to play. So come on, folks. Let the questioning begin. I'll start you with the fact that the character I have in mind is another woman.
Btw, it seems Lady D. and I have switched places in the game room. We'll looking to see who she has become in "Who am I?"

Oh, thanks for the new name, I rather like it :).
Is the mysterious lady a victim, or perhaps a murderer?

The lady is, indeed, a murderess.

Is there a private detective in the movie? Is he by any chance Sam Spade or Philip Marlowe?

OK. But if you get this too easily, I have an alternative that is real cool and maybe a bit tougher.
The detective is ... Sam Spade.
