Once again, turmoil is brewing in the underground crime world of New York. The city is slowly being taken over by La Cosa Nostra, the New York underground mafia. They are recruiting members at record numbers and they can be seen in every night club and bar scaring away customers. And now Joseph Hollis, the High Philosopher of the Order of Socrates, and mayor of New York, has learned of a secret plan by his rival faction, La Cosa Nostra, to go on a crime spree and make off with money, valuables, and ultimate control of various establishments in New York.

Mr. Hollis, being not only concerned with the livelihoods of the patrons of his city, but also with his rival faction gaining too much power, has decided to put together a team of trusted Order of Socrates resistance operatives to foil the plans of La Cosa Nostra. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of attrition lately, and certain people have been going to the highest bidder to offer their services as a spy working from within the Order of Socrates. Joseph is aware of this and he's put together the best possible team he can think of, but unwittingly will be inviting some spies for La Cosa Nostra to his team of operatives.

As long as the loyal Order of Socrates operatives can figure out whom amongst them is untrustworthy, their mission should be a success. But if they trust the wrong people, La Cosa Nostra will succeed and cause severe damage to the New York economy, while gaining enough power to take over the city.

Will the mayor and his team be able to restore order to New York? Or will the underground mafia, take over the city's resources? That's for you to decide in this version of The Resistance: Order of Socrates Restores Order

Hmmm... this vote was closer than I would have predicted. Not sure yet what to make of that. I figured it would either pass easily, or get shot down big time.

OK, now to the exit polls. 4 people voted NO to the mission:
Jason Arends
Cekuray
Biggie528
Ms Helen

Personally, I'd love to hear why. Not in an accusatory manner, but just to understand the other players' concerns.

Also, I love that this mission is going through. By all indications, it should succeed, which means that the Resistance will have a 1 mission lead. As long as we pass Mission 4 (which shouldn't be hard since it needs 2 spies to fail), we only need to get a victory on mission 2 or 3 to put this thing to bed quickly. With Eden coming up next, I feel good about this.

I voted no for fact finding as per someone else (i cant remember who probably biggie? suggested) i at this point am only assured of my allegiances and though you'd say you and eden are not spies, for me at this early stage in the game- i only have word word for it. Know what i mean?

Jason I have no frickin IDEA what you mean. You're probably playing that lovable clueless thing again, which to me means you could DEFINITELY be a spy again.

My reasoning was that I wanted to see how the vote fell. Probability wise, there should be at least one spy on that team. If its Serges, that means Eden is as well. If its Ms Helen, then the other two are probably not spies. Basically, I wanted to get a feel for how people voted.

Also, you said last time you were surprised when the first mission passed. So apparently that's not common and I thought it was a better idea this time, considering now I know what I'm doing.

I and Serges are either spies, or not.

So this means, if the mission is on, we'd have to find a way to sabotage it.

If we both sabotaged the mission -since we cannot PM one another-, this could reveal our identities.

Now if Helen's a spy she'll have to accept the mission anyway to pass undetected. If she doesn't then we'll at least know who she is. We win either way.

Now if people have done the math and said yes, then most of them I believe are Resistance. If not, they could as well be spies.

Fact-finding is therefore an irrelevant argument here.

By the way, now is the time for a little calculation.

4 spies, 6 resistance people... so for two spies and a resistance to be randomly chosen to make this team you'd have 0.30 chance--> [( (4C2)*(6C1)]/(10C3)

Now for at least two spies to be on this team of 3 people, you'd need to hit a probability of 0.30 + [4C3)/(10C3)] = 0.300 + 0.033 = 0.333 ~ 0.34

So it's 34%.

I don't mean to rush this, but considering I haven't gotten any PMs from "play at home" players, I think I'm going to bag that idea in the interest of not holding the game up. Sorry if anyone wanted to play.

Mission Results are in. Will be posted now.

The team of OOS operatives hid out inside the Meaty Treat and waited for the mob thugs to arrive. Serges, Eden and Ms Helen each took a corner of the shop to make sure each entrance was covered. At around 2:00 am, there was a crash through the front door. Ms Helen was the closest to the entrance and she immediately leapt on top of the intruder. While she had him pinned down, Eden emerged from the dark and secured a second La Cosa Nostra robber. Serges, who was waiting in the back pulled out his gun, and aimed it at the hit's leader saying, "Nice try there boys, but this isn't going to happen. Not tonight. The police are on their way."

Mission 1 consisting of a team of Serges, Eden Zweig, and Ms Helen was a SUCCESS.

The team members voted as follows:
???? SUCCESS
???? SUCCESS
???? SUCCESS

Eden Zweig is up next to propose the team for Mission 2 and to hand out the special abilities.

Reminder of player order:
Serges
Eden Zweig
Jason Arends
Cekuray
biggie528
Molly Maltese
Illicit
M. Lacrimosa
Ms Helen
Riza Hawkeye

I will write up the mission details and give Eden his abilities in a few minutes.

MISSION 2: Sami's

Mayor Hollis has once again learned that La Cosa Nostra is planning a hit. This time it is on Sami's Restaurant. Apparently Sami keeps all of his savings locked in a huge safe in the back office at the restaurant. La Cosa Nostra plans to take this, and once Sami is broke, they can coerce him to give them information on the goings on in his establishment. A back room at Sami's is a regular meeting place for the leadership team of Order of Socrates.

Mayor Hollis needs to stop this to ensure none of the secrets that have been discussed in the presence of Sami and his staff are leaked to La Cosa Nostra. He gives the details of the planned attack to his chosen team of operatives.

Eden Zweig is the leader for Mission 2.

Mission 2 will consist of FOUR team members.

Mayor Hollis gave the team leader three special advantages to distribute to whom he sees fit. They are:
- OVERHEARD CONVERSATION - Owner of this card learns the allegiance of either the player above or below him/her on the player list via PM from the game master.
- IN THE SPOTLIGHT - Owner of this card may force a team member on any mission to post their choice to succeed or sabotage a mission on the message board, instead of privately in PM.
- OPINION MAKER - Receiver of this card must vote first publicly whether to approve a mission for the rest of the game.

Eden should now distribute these abilities to other team members or keep one for himself.

Eden please feel free to assign these abilities whenever you are ready.
