Here ye, here ye!

There will be a writing contest starting May 1. This contest will be a big one with 3 different categories. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 submissions in each category for a total of 9 prizes. The 3 categories are:

--Character Biography: Unlike the last contest, entries will not be writing their own bios. This will be explained at a later date.

--Case Introduction: Entries will write a case introduction with the same parameters required in Sleuth Noir. It will be the intent that these intros will be submitted after the contest is over for Noir cases.

--Freestyle: The parameters of this section will be described later. The good news here is that bad spelling and poor grammar will not hurt any entry. This one is just for raw originality.

Right now, I am NOT looking for entries. I am looking for judges. I will be a judge, and 10 more are needed.

Important: If you elect to be a judge, you may not be a contestant.
The following judge specialists are needed:
--Expert spellers. 2 needed.
--Grammar experts. 2 needed.
--Case Intro syntax expert. 1 needed.
--Creativity judges. 5 needed.

Judges must be active members. Judges must be available between today and through May. The latter part of May will be the busiest.

For those that will want to be contestants, you will have an opportunity in April to sign up. A contestant may enter any 1, 2, or all 3 categories. Anyone can enter (except judges). BUT, only subscribers will be prize eligible. If you want to subscribe for the first time and get a discount, please see Lady Jas about getting a Sidekick coupon.

Hopefully, this event will incorporate a large amount of active sleuths. The more involved, the more fun it will be. Let's unite and make happy memories!

PS As proof of my credentials, shouldn't that be 'Hear ye'? :P

Yes, "here ye" was a test. You passed.

You are the 2nd person that said May was bad. I am afraid I am more familiar with US timetables. Is May bad in the international arena? If so, late April is still doable to have the contest.

Those with organized bios will not be at an advantage. Nobody will be writing their own bio as partly explained above.

Writing someone else's bio, wow that must be fun :)

Do the contestants have to get a permission from the person whose bio they are planning on writing?

A couple of changes.

May seems to be bad timing for many, so I am moving the contest up to April 15.

Second change. A judge may also be an entry. The only restriction is that a judge will not be an entrant in his or her judging category. For instance, one could be a judge for the bios, but still enter the other 2 categories of Freestyle and/or Case Intros.

To answer Eden's question. There will be 4 "newbies" introduced on April 15. At the start of the contest, I will announce the names of those four. These four will be invented strictly for the contest. Each contestant will have to search out these 4 mystery sleuths and decide which one to write a bio for. Each of the 4 "newbies" will have information in their bio sections that will simply describe that particular sleuth. When a contestant completes the bio, that bio will be posted here in the message board for all to see.

I would love to be a judge, though spelling and grammar isn't my forte, I did excel in literature and creative writing. As a professional song writer, being involved would be a privilege. Let me know:D

I'll be damned! My Pa was right: women DO have a complicated mind. I've said it before an' I'll say it again.

Now people…people…let’s be civilized here…please don’t step over each other and don’t crowd the entrance. An’ if ya’ see any coffins laying around, for cryin’ out loud do NOT lift any lids.

Seems to me this’s set to be a big party. An’ it ain’t about drinkin’…well…there might be some exceptions, but it is about soul. Sleuth soul. I guess I’m repeating myself on this idea, but what the hell…

So here’s my stand: if I’ll end up being live an’ kickin’ in Sleuth world around the end of April I’ll join on any still open position, judge or contestant. For judge however I gotta say my spelling and grammar abilities are limited by the distance microsoft word corrector and google dictionary take me.

Not makin’ any promises here though…might just get drunk and have a memory wipe out.

Nice goin’, Queen.

Lots of interest around this subject I see. I do believe someone was talking to me yesterday about the "dynamics of today's Sleuth community"... Now...if my car had the same kind of dynamics I'd have to find a job that would allow me to work from home.

We still need judges. No experience necessary. This will be a FUN experience. The only criteria is you need to be subscribed to be a judge.

Also, you can be a judge and still enter the contest! You just can't enter the category you are judging on.

I'll be a judge. Not sure where/if I will be submitting an entry, so I'll just fill in where needed and enter where able.
