Attention ladies and gentlemen, at the request of several players, I am proud to announce the Sleuthville AVH Tournament 2011! *trumpets blare and streamers fly*

The format will be 16 detectives, randomly paired off into teams of two by a third party, to face one other team. For this competition, players going through Cairo will have a day taken off their totals. The winning team will be the one with the lowest combined number of days for hunt completion. Failed hunts will not count against you. You will not be disqualified. If you fail your hunt and would like to start another, you may, but the day count will start from the official start date of the round. Irene will be tracking progress using her new program, so this can be considered as further testing.

The rules:

You may:
-travel to Shangri La the night before, but NOT start the hunt
-use a travel kit
-use head of faction privileges
-use agencies and apartments to swap gear

You may not (enforced only by the honor code):
-use sidekick cases (for either clues or travel)
-enter second/third detectives, etc.

The winning team(s) from each round will go on to the next round until a winning team is determined. In the case of a tie, both teams will move on to compete in a triple threat pair matchup. The last team standing wins. Anyone who would like to join, please POST here. Participants will be gathered on a first-come, first-served basis. The first matches will start on Monday, April 25, 2011.

Each following round of the competition will start on the next Monday at 0:00 sleuth server time, unless one of the matches takes longer than expected. In that case things will be adjusted accordingly and you will be updated as soon as possible.

Looks like a tie for my team and Breitkat's team. I'll be glad to battle once more to these excellent detectives!

While I realize this will not make a difference to the outcome (since even if my silent partner captures today, the best we can score is 8), I believe I went through Cairo on my hunt yet the -1 adjustment was not applied. Perhaps this has something to do with the confusion with scorekeeping in the first days?

Again, I know it will not affect the outcome. Just sharing as an FYI to Irene. Thanks so much for your hard work on making Sleuthville a better place to be.

I updated Magistrate Cruella Chandler to have gone through Cairo. It's a challenge that I posted that those who had been through Cairo, before I managed to update the start of the group to be this year, I got no information about someone whom I had missed Cairo for...

When the tracker IS working, to have your trip through Cairo registered, it is imperative that someone looks at the scoreboard while your detective page reads Active (Cairo), as it is when the page is looked at, the updates is done. Noone is looking, means that noone knows about the cities people are in.

As for links, it is also possible to look at the scores on this page:
http://playsleuth2.com/Noir/bonus/Scores/brackets.spy?id=4
that are meant to have some kind of braket like view of the match.

(I am the first one to say I am not really satisfied with the layout of this page, but I am not really sure how to make it better. :-S I do want to have some kind of layout that will scale for at least 3 rounds... Help and suggestions are welcome.

Thank you Irene and Announcer for making this scoreboard. I do have a question though...I failed my hunt on the first day of this second round and I don't see that reflected on the score board.
You can see on Active hunts that I am now on day 4 of my hunt, not 5:

Thank you for looking into this for me!
Kind regards!

Hi MeadowFire :-)
I am sorry that your failed hunt seem to be gone, and not reflected on the scoreboard.

When it comes to your active hunt, while it started May-4, the days will be counted from the official start date. i.e. May-3.
Therefore you are seen as on day 5 of your hunt.
This is the price for a failed hunt (lost time).

O wow, I thought in the last round that only the Captured hunts count. That's unfortunate;(

You are right. Only the Captured hunts will count. - so your failed hunt gone does not make any difference to the score you get, since you have a non-failed hunt.

If you had started your hunt two days late, without failing a hunt first, the count of the days would still be counted from the official start date.

If you go back and have a look at the test tournament that was run. Riza had one hunt which she started one day early. Even though she captured, the hunt was seen as failed, as it started too early. - the other hunt she finished started on day 2 if I remember correctly, and was a 2 days hunt until capture. Still, the daycount in the tournament was higher, as the count was from the official start date.

Ah, so does that mean the points that I currently have on the scoreboard is actually a day lower than what it is showing? I started the failed hunt on the same day as everyone else, followed by starting the captured hunt the day after (Wednesday) making my total for the captured hunt 5 total days (with the Cairo day -1) and a total of 4 points. I'm only asking because I'm not sure whether we tied for a final round or not:D I certainly don't want to let my teammate down:)
Thank you for bearing with me! This is my first tournament and I'm having a blast!

Hm... I understand it is a bit tricky. Let me try to clarify:

It's easiest to see from the first round.
In The Pen is Mightier team, both Vulkie3 and Heimlich Von Victor started out at April-25. Heimlich failed his hunt, and started a new one on April-26. Vulkie3 captured on April-28, and Heimlich captured on April-30. Vulkie3's daycount is 4 days, and Heimlich Von Victor's daycount is seen as 6 days (even though he captured on the 5.day of his hunt). Since they both went through Cairo, they ended up with 8 points.

The Twin Godesses team both started out on April-25, but Magdalene failed her hunt, and started a new one on April-27. Night Queen captured on April-28, and Magdalene captured on May-1. The daycount for Night Queen was 4 days, and for Magdalene it was 7 days, even though she captured on the 5.day of her AVH. Since Night Queen went through Cairo, their number of points were 10.

Essentially everyone will have the same day count no matter what. The count is days in the tournament, not days in your individual hunt. The only exception being if you went through Cairo on your successful hunt. If you finish on Day 4 of the tournament having gone through Cairo, your total points will be 3. If you finish on Day 5 of the tournament having not gone through Cairo, your total points will be 5.

Last round I failed my hunt on Day 2. I traveled back to Shangri-La and started a new one, four days later I finished on Day 6 of the tournament. Because I had gone through Cairo, I got a deduction of one day, but the days from my failed hunt still counted against me. So I had a total of 5 points since it had been 6 days since this round started, minus one because I went through Cairo.
