Hi folks,

We've made some changes to the Noir Code of Conduct (see footer or point browser @ http://noir.playsleuth.com/help/conduct.html)

This is mainly for consistency across the Hypothetical Software landscape, bringing the Noir Code of Conduct in line with what is in place over on Shades.

This has meant is adding the section: "Cheating, Hacking and 3rd Party Software". This section is the only addition/change.

Please make yourselves aware of this new Section. I'll place it below as well.

Cheating, Hacking and 3rd Party Software

*Illegal Hacking Activities*

Any breaches of US or international cyber crime or wire fraud laws will be prosecuted. The perpetrators will be banned permanently from Hypoware games and their Sleuth subscriptions will be forfeit without any refunds. Examples of illegal hacking include (but are not limited to): attempting to hack or compromise Hypoware server security, distributing or injecting malicious software code into either the Sleuth server or client code, launching a denial of service attack against Hypoware servers, stealing or intercepting personal or financial user records, spoofing or stealing paid Sleuth subscriptions.

*Bots and Automated Game Scripting*

It is not permitted to create or use any program that automates Sleuth game play or circumvents the Sleuth game client in order to speed in-game advancement. Practically speaking, this rule prohibits use of any third party program, script or plugin that SENDS data to Sleuth servers.

First Offense
Loss of 50% of Experience and Commensurate Skill Points and Skills

Subsequent
Full Detective Reset

*URL Hacking and Web Request Spoofing*

Modifying, duplicating or spoofing data messages generated by the Sleuth client is considered cheating.

First Offense
Loss of 25% of Experience and Commensurate Skill Points and Skills

Second Offense
Loss of 50% of Experience and Commensurate Skill Points and Skills

Subsequent
Full Detective Reset

*Abusing Known and Published Exploits*

If a game administrator announces and describes a particular activity or strategy to be an exploit of the game on the Message Boards, any further use of that tactic (after the announcement) will result in a full detective reset.

**Helper Apps, Case Status Trackers and Crime Scene Searching Aids**

It is permissible to use programs, scripts or plugins that passively READ data sent from the Sleuth server to the client.

I suppose one of the FAQ's will be: Is Pigeot's Sleuth Helper OK to use?

The answer is yes. See the last section "Helper Apps, Case Status Trackers and Crime Scene Searching Aids."

Pigeot's helper app merely tracks (READS) where you have been and presents that in a logical manner.

If you are using some other app that SENDS data to the server to *automate* case play for you, or, for example, ask a question(s) for you, then you should stop using those apps forthwith.

And please, we're not on a witch hunt; no burning brands; no retrospective finger-pointing. We are merely, as I said before, making the CoC consistent across the Hypothetical Software landscape.

This will probably mean absolutely no chance for most of you, and only a minor adjustment here or there for others.

I look forward to seeing you all in Shangri La on 1 May!!

Squirrel out.
