Amidst the blare of Sleuthville's cars and the general noise of the city streets, Riza acends a cardboard box at City Hall, clearing her throat.

Annoyed at getting no response from the hundreds of detectives around her chasing murderers and getting drunk at the bar, she grabs Anais Nin, who is walking by, by the shoulders and whispers something into her ear.

Anais nods. A second later, a shrill shriek rips through the air, making many people jump and exclaim in surprise. Riza smiles, thanks Anais, and starts to speak.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the time has come once again for a Villain Hunt Tournament! Recently, seeing how contests are always fun and bring the community together--both spectators and participants--the Vidocq Society is honored to host the Tournament of the Champions.

What's that you say? You're not a champion? Pfft, who cares? What is a champion but one who rises to greaness? You all have the chance to obtain greatness and immortalize yourselves! Each and every single one of you. *points at everyone in turn*

That being said, anyone who wants to join, please post here. The match will start on Monday March 8, 2010 at 0:00 sleuth server time. Now on to the rules.

You may:
-travel to Shangri La the night before, but NOT start the hunt
-use a travel kit
-use head of faction privileges
-use agencies and apartments to swap gear

You may not:
-use sidekick cases
-enter second/third detectives, etc.

Basically, you're on the honor code.

The format will be 8 or 16 detectives, depending on turnout, each randomly paired off by a third party to face one other person. The winner from each round will go on to the next round. Same day captures are considered ties, and will result in a triple threat match. The last one standing wins.

Well I'm going to have to tip my hat to the victor here, congrats to Sal!

The clues definitely did not fall in my favor this round. Believe you me, I'm all for a waterboarding skill being added to the skill set after this hunt.

Good luck Sal, I'm sure you have a tough fight in the finals.

Thanks Heim. As you well know, all you can do is solve the cases and hope for a break in the way the clues fall. It was my turn to be lucky, I guess. I hope I haven't used it all up in this round. Tough fight in the finals? That's all I've had so far. That and a chance to meet some very nice people.
I'm no Dick Cheney fan, but I agree about the waterboarding. :)

*looks at sea and points at Heimlich waterboarding*. I can imagine it all. But I'd rather like that dolphine idea, in the "ideas" thread for HLI xD

Hats off to Coredilia Falco, gave me quite a run. Of course all the repeats didn't help either, but I went down swinging, narrowed it down to two people in the final city and guessed wrong! Goog luck to both Sal and Cordy in the finals! :-D

Thanks a lot for all the congrats, guys, and kudos to ctown for that last defiant stand!

I have to confess at this stage that I have a teensy weensy problem. I'm travelling next week, thought I was going to be able to Sleuth as well, now find I can't. (I'm attributing all my luck so far in this competition down to evil spirits gleefully looking forward to dropping me in it!).

I'd be back the week after if we could reschedule, otherwise I'm happy to bow out at this stage and yield the honours to Sal.

I'll be glad to reschedule the start date to one week later, Monday April 5, 2010 at 0:00 SST, as both competitors have agreed on it.

This promises to be an interesting round. :)

Hi there!!

Sorry I haven't been around for a bit the past few days. (Head's been driving me batty again. ;-)

Congratulations to Anais, Talia, and Heimlich for solving their hunts!! You all did wonderfully, and captured some very interesting-sounding villains! ;-)

Also congratulations to everyone else, solved or not!! These hunts are not easy; they're extremely high-pressure, high-stress affairs. Regardless of how you fare, count yourself a winner for taking on this goliath of a challenge. Well done!!

Good luck to both the finalists!! We'll see you in the Winners' Circle!!

Breit

P.S. -- Next time, somebody PPPPPPP-UUUU-LLLLLLLLLLLLL-EEEEAAAASSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEE bail me outta the hospital and set me up with a morphine drip the next time I get the goofy idea that solving one of these things will be absolutely NOO problem for my poor confused brain. (Yeah, right, Breit. ;-) Thanks. B.
