Hello all.
I'm fairly new to Sleuth and I thought I might share a little hobby of mine with you all. Here's something for that sad moment when the mysteries of the day are all done.

Thousands lay up gold within this house,
but no man made it.
Spears past counting guard this house,
but no man wards it.
What is it?

Blaise-

1) From the top of the stairs, turn on switch (A) and (B). Leave switch (C) off.

2) After waiting for a minute or so, turn off switch (B).

3) Go downstairs.

4) The light that is still on is controlled by switch (A)...don't tough it, it's hot "ouch".

5) carefully feel the two lights that are turned off. The warm one is controlled by switch (B) and the coll one by switch (C).

This is a really cool thread guys! A missionary I stayed with once had many fun riddles that we spent hours trying to solve. Alas I cannot remember any in their entirety to share! *sniff* So I shall keep trying to solve these before I read the answers. :-D

Damn, Blaise you can not play anymore. :) I think as a real life PI you have an unfair advantage. hahah.

You were right about the robot, it wasn't programmed to open the carton the toys were in.

Another one:

NASA was considering sending canaries in to space to study them under 0 gravity. The project was scrapped when someone realized that in spite of having sufficient water supplies, they could die of dehydration within a few hours. Why?

The canaries will not be able to drink through a straw, as astronauts do. They would not be able to use their beaks to drink the water as humans do.

Also, bird water feeders work on gravity, so the water would not flow down to the bottom to leak out. Therefore, the birds would not be able to drink out of the birdfeeder either.

Yes ... I'm with R.Sweets on the canary one. That sounds like a jolly good answer to me : o )

Ben - brilliant! You're spot on with light bulb one. It usually takes people a while to get that.

So any last takers on the sequence ...

S - T - N - D - R - D - ? - ?

I'll give you a clue ... try pairing them, like so:

ST-ND-RD-??

(that makes it a bit easier)
