Hello all.
I'm fairly new to Sleuth and I thought I might share a little hobby of mine with you all. Here's something for that sad moment when the mysteries of the day are all done.

Thousands lay up gold within this house,
but no man made it.
Spears past counting guard this house,
but no man wards it.
What is it?

Actually fund would be correct. It is a word. However, the answer I have listed is "Underground." I was sure someone from The Underground should guess it.

Here is another:
Mel Colly was found dead in his library. His forehead was resting on the keys of his tape recorder, a pool of blood lay on the desk beside him. From the door, Shadow could see that Mel's right hand covered a gun and that the bullet had entered his right temple. Shadow removed the tape recording from under Mel's head and pressed the play button. A voice said, "This is Mel Colly speaking. I am not going to go on with a long winded farewell. I am tired of life and all its anguish. I'll see you all on the other side, wherever that may be." There was a gunshot and the sound of his head hitting the tape recorder keys, followed by a click indicating the recording had been shut off. Shadow wsa certain that someone else had imitated Mel's voice and made this recording to sound like a suicide. Why does Shadow suspect murder?

A hempen finger,
An outstretched arm,
A noble, patient stance.
A pull,
A crack,
And darkness comes,
A dead man learns to dance.
What is it?

If someone already solved this one sorry.
Is it a hanging?

Shadow suspects murder because, if Mel truly had made the suicide tape, it would have kept on recording with nobody to shut it off.

Or would it have been because, if Mel had truly made the tape, his head hitting the keys would have turned the recorder off? Either way, it's that off click.

Here's another one:
A farmer and his hired help were carrying grain to the barn. The farmer carried one sack of grain and the hired help carried two sacks. Who carried the heavier load and why?

Majandra was almost right. Shadow hit play, and heard the message. He did not rewind the tape. If he heard the click of the tape recording shutting off, by the victims head hitting the recorder....then someone must have rewound the tape.

Sid Shady asked his wife to accompany him to a war movie being featured that night. During a scene when grenades were exploding and guns were firing. Shady decided the time was right: he pulled out a gun and shot his wife. He then took her out of the theatre without anyone trying to stop him. Why not?
