Hello all.
I'm fairly new to Sleuth and I thought I might share a little hobby of mine with you all. Here's something for that sad moment when the mysteries of the day are all done.

Thousands lay up gold within this house,
but no man made it.
Spears past counting guard this house,
but no man wards it.
What is it?

On a serious note is the time of day relevant? [No]

I have to step away for a few hours but I didn't want to leave everyone hanging during that time. I won't give any clues because any clue would just give it away. I will advise you to concentrate on my answers on the last page or so that have been "Yes" or a qualified "No".

Good luck!

So, let me get this straight. A woman, who has been unfaithful to her husband, has had something happen to her hands which makes it obvious to her husband that she has been unfaithful to him, so he shoots her? And he just shoots her, like a kneejerk reaction, so its not something that could be explained away, like a new ring or something?

Wow, I really am stumped.

This is a great puzzle Barry, thank you.

I am still mystified so if I may ask a question or two...

Is the sign something missing from her hand that should be there? A missing false nail for example?

Did the husband relate the sign to an earlier event?

Does the sign indicate to the husband who she's having the affair with?

Barry, I have been puzzled by your riddle, but is the answer sign language? she signed something with her hands?

Arabella has it! Congratulation!

The husband and deaf wife were driving in a car. She took that moment to tell her husband about her affair via Sign Language. He shot her in a jealous rage with a handgun he kept in the car.

I have another but I don't want to be a hog. If no one posts a riddle for a few days, I may come back with it.

Wow, GREAT RIDDLE Barry!

I think I'm going to post the next one... It's hard not posting one that a lot of people would know, so I'll try this one...

A seated woman is writing a letter. She dies because there's a thunderstorm outside. What happened?

Yay! Now I can try guessing. I hope I don't embarrass myself.

Is it relevant:
1. where she is seated? by a window? in a house? in a particular room? on the first floor? second? floor relevant?
2. what kind of pen she is using? what kind of ink? what kind of paper? if she were at a particular kind of desk? table? writing in her lap?
3. the fact that she's writing a letter? could this have happened if she were doing something else?
4. what country or type of terrain surrounds her?

is the thunderstorm directly related to her death or did it cause something to happen that caused her death? like did the thunderstorm take out the electricity and she stabbed herself with a quill pen? (I think unlikely but I had to get it out)

would this have happened if she were standing and writing? if she were standing and not writing? sitting and not writing?

Is the letter writing directly related to the storm? was there flooding? was she writing a letter to someone or just writing a letter like the letter "J" or something?

does lightning strike her or her house/location? near it? relevant?

did she know there was a thunderstorm? did her ignorance kill her like she knew it was there but ignored it? or she had no idea?

would she have written the letter if there wasn't a storm?

did she start writing the letter and then the storm started or vice versa?

was the thunderstorm unusual in any way?

*whew*
