(Everyone's a suspect!)

There was a quite noticeable scuff on the floor.

The creme de la creme of the world's crime-fighting society were at a formal dinner at her modest country residence that evening, and there was a scuff on the floor.

Molly Maltese sighed in tones of great irritation and wondered how she hadn't noticed the mark BEFORE all her guests had arrived. They were in the dining room now, chattering happily and dining on the delicious meal she had hired a cook specifically for. Many of her friends and associates were then, including some new faces. One new face in particular; a Mr. John Harlequin. He was a new politician in the area, determined to take on Joe Hollis for mayor. His past was basically unknown; his favorability extreme. Citizens either loved him or hated him.

Just as she had this thought, someone shrieked.

"He's choking!"

Raising a brow, she hurried from the parlor to look in. All the guests seated at the long table were either standing or sitting with shocked expressions; and John Harlequin was quite shockingly purple.

Even as she rushed into the room and neared him, Harlequin gave one final gasp and died. Silence descended as she grabbed his glass and sniffed at the rim delicately. She turned, and countless eyes bored into her.

"Alright, which one of you poisoned my guest?" she snarled.

Whispers and titters danced along the table, before a very familiar man stood. "We should call the police." he said.

Another raised a brow. "There's a room full of detectives here. I'm sure that's not necessary."

"It is when one of those detectives may be a murderer!"

"We can't send for the police anyway; can't you see its been snowing all this time? We can't go anywhere!" another shouted. Molly went to the window and looked out. Sure enough, snow blanketed everything in sight. The cars parked out front were completely obscured by white.

"Nobody is leaving! If you try, I'll shoot every last one of you!" Molly yelled, pulling out a pistol.

And with that, Molly's world exploded into a seemingly endless world of pain. She fell to her knees, blood pouring down the front of her blouse from the two gunshot wounds. Gasping for air, she sluggishly tilted sideways until her shoulder hit the leg of a wrought-iron side table. Slowly her eyes traveled up and mentally she calculated even as the edges of her vision turned black.

"I should have figured it out sooner." she said softly, and then with her very last reserves of energy she reached up and grabbed the heavy statue from the table and threw it right at the killers face. Her aim was off, it only clipped the temple, but it was enough to bleed.

"I hope they kill you, you bastard." she spat, and then she slumped to the floor, blood already pooling underneath her cheek and through her hair as the killer looked on.

*** Meanwhile Outside***

"Dead." Charlie declared. Marc was dead, his throat had been cut. The killer had to be close at hand now.

BANG! BANG!.....

" What the hell?" Charlie asked himself.

Not knowing precisely where those shots came from Charlie headed back in the house to investigate.

As he came into the Sitting Room he saw the crowd standing in a mob. "Let me through." He said pushing his way to the front of the crowd. There he saw her...Molly Maltese lying in a pool of her own blood. She was dead, she had been shot.

" OK, everyone step back. Dont touch anything. I'm gonna investigate this crime scene. Elizabeth can you please ensure all the guests go wait for me in the dinning room?" said Charlie.

He first examined Molly's corpse. She had been shot twice at point blank range by a small caliber weapon. He knew that because there was no exit wounds. He found a bloody shoe print and a pair of shoes by the door that matched them. They had been Marc's shoes...but not the ones he was wearing when he was killed.

Then he saw it...the statue that was laying 5 feet from the body. " How did you get way over there?" Charlie asked talking to himself. He walked over and picked up the statue.

Right before Charlie placed it back on the ground he saw something wet on one corner of the statue. Upon closer examination he learned it was blood. But not Molly's blood it had been lying too far away from the pool of blood to be the same blood.

That meant it had to be the killers. "Molly you did it. You brought the b@$tard down." Charlie said out loud.

Just then Charlie heard a voice...

"Charlie?" Zeo breathed, looking at the Molly lying down in a pool of blood. "I heard gunshots and ran right down here. I met Elizabeth in the hallway, she told me what happened and that we're all to meet in the dinning room. I thought you might need a hand."

Holding the statue which injured the killer, Charlie only stared at Zeo. The thin man's forehead was bleeding.

Zeo noticed Charlie's gaze and wiped his wound with his right hand. He was holding a small pistol with his left, aiming at Charlie. "So, I guess you've figured it out. That hag had a hell of an aim even as she was dying." Charlie tried to stand up from his crouching position, but Zeo cocked his gun, "Don't you move a muscle. I'm ambidextrous, so my left hand can shoot as good as my right."

"Why?" was all that Charlie uttered.

"Why. WHY? Why the hell did Harlequin had to date my sister? Why did the b@$tard dump her right after having it with her? My poor Zoe was in and out of the mental institution ever since!" Zeo eyes turned blood shot in an instant. "Just last month, she finally succeeded in committing suic.." Zeo pressed his lips together, unable to go on. Zeo never did nor able to reveal this to anyone. How could he? The poison had been incubating in the pit of his stomach for so long. When he realized Molly had inviting the man to her gathering, he knew this was his chance. Odium for Harlequin had blinded Zeo from everything else.

Charlie's brain was churning. He had to think of a way out of this, fast.

"It's too late. You're all going down." Zeo quickly stole a glance at his own blood on his right hand fingers. "I've planted some explosives in the dining room. As soon as the group step into the hall, the whole place will be blown to pieces. No one will ever know what really happened in here." Zeo laughed dryly. Charlie could see death in Zeo's eyes. "But then, you are going first... or should i say, fourth..." Zeo pulled the trigger.

Molly coughed once then, cracking her eyes open slightly. Why was everyone assuming she was dead? It was quite the insult! Sure she was on the brink of death...any minute her body could just give out entirely but damn it for the time being this "hag" wasn't done, thank you very much!

She opened her eyes wider, listening to Joseph's monologue. He was standing right over her, about to pull the trigger on Charlie! Gritting her teeth, she reached out a hand and grasped him on the ankle as he fired. She could do no more, but it worked; his aim was thrown wildly off as the woman he presumed dead grasped his ankle as bold as you please! The shot was buried in the plaster somewhere, and Charlie, seeing his opportunity rushed at Joseph.

"If you blow up this house, you bastard..." Molly gasped, her voice a mere whisper, "You WILL be paying off my homeowners insurance."

She gave a little sigh, her cheek settling against the cold floor again as all her energy was expended. The room went dark and she hovered on the thin line that was the very brink of her own death.

" You rotten no good peice of sh*t." Charlie said as he landed a right hook on Zeo's face. But the thin detective came back with a left of his own. And the fact that he was still holding the pistol put alittle extra behind it. It had looked like Zeo was going to win this fight. He was straddling Charlie raining punch after punch down on Charlie's face.

Just as Zeo reared back for the final blow Charlie brought his left hand speeding towards the side of Zeo's body. In his hand Charlie held a knife, a knife that hit home in Zeo's right side sending the thin detective into a convulsion of pain.

" Thats for Marc and Vulkie." Charlie said as he stood and looked down on Zeo who was in horrendous pain.

Charlie ran over to Molly and cradled her head. " Molly dont die...you saved my life I owe ya one now." He said. He could hear her shallow breathing and knew she needed a doctor fast.

Zeo could feel life draining out of him with that deep stab on his side. He knew the wound had punctured his lung. Slowly he slid down on the floor as he leaned against the wall of the Sitting Room. "It's too late now, Charlie." Zeo coughed a laugh. "Two shots in the chest, Molly won't survive that... and for the rest of the people, the bomb shall go off any t-..."

BOOM!!!

An explosion rung out from the direction of the dining room. It was so strong that the entire estate shook as if an earthquake hits. "And no, I refuse pay off Molly's homeowners insurance..." Zeo felt very cold, and each breath felt like he was breathing underwater, but he had no fear. He had avenged for his sister Zoe, and he had no regrets at all. Slowly darkness began to seep in. He was falling through a deep, deep void.

"Figures he would." Molly coughed, and blood seeped freely out of the corner of her mouth. She looked up at Charlie with a hint of her usual sly humor.

"Don't get too worked up, my friend. Joseph and I, we're going places." she gasped. "I wish I could slap him in the face one last time. Ah, life's little joys."

She stiffened for a moment, and knew it was time.

"Well, at least it was a dramatic affair. Tell the papers all about me. Say nice things though, I do have some measure of vanity even in death." she took one final gasp. "Well, this is my stop...I'll see you around kid."

And with that, Molly Maltese exhaled in a rush and died.

Charlie laid Molly's head down and gave her one last look. " I will." was all he could say. He stood up and made his way towards the remains of the dinning room.

Luckily the blast wasnt as powerful as he had feared. He found that a few of the guests were only minorlly injured, scrapes, bruises, and a few with burns. He found Heim's unconsious body under the china cabinate. With some help from someone else they got it off him easily. Heim wasnt hurt to badly. Nothing a stay in the hospital wouldnt cure. They also found Elizabeth who only sustained a broken arm.

Within 30 minutes of the blast the police and reporters were all over the place. Charlie had explained to the authorities what all had transpired over the last couple of days. He gave a statement to the paper's about Zeo and how Molly had helped him solve the case and how Molly had saved his life.

As Charlie climbed in his car to head home he vowed to never attend another dinner party full of detectives.

And that concludes " The J. Harlequin Debacle"
thanks to everyone who participated...I had fun.
