October 24, 1938- Heimlich VonVIctor felt a chill run down his spine. Autumn always had that effect on him. He looked up at the multitude of colors adorning the trees and placed his hands in his coat pockets. The pungent aroma in the air told him that, somewhere, leaves were being burnt. He took a deep breath and looked down, to the place he had visited as many times as he could in the past two years. The cold hard stone hadn’t changed a bit, and never would. It would always be a testament to the man resting under it.

RICHARD CAMBRIDGE
FEBRUARY 10, 1892-
JUNE 15, 1936
“Justice for all. Above all else.”

He took a deep sigh. He never left anything behind, nor did he suspect that Richard would want anything left for him. He leaned down and placed his hand on the stone, “I’m doing alright Richard. Eric and I started up another agency. We’re doing it right this time, and Sergei is getting better at English every day. He’s even solving cases now; you wouldn’t believe how well he’s doing.”

“Excuse me, detective VonVictor?” a voice called behind him

Heim whirled around to find himself face to face with a young uniformed officer, “What do you want?” he demanded, “Can’t you see I’m in a cemetery?”

“Yes sir,” he responded, “and I’m terribly sorry to disturb you, but I’ve been asked to fetch you right away, it’s a matter of life and death!”

Heimlich let out a sigh, and leaned down to touch the stone again, “It never ends Richard, it never ends. I have to go now, but I’ll be back real soon.”

"Some lipstick... Some lotion... That should do the trick..." Vulkie murmered and she was done.

Still blond haired and in a nice dress, she entered the living room.

"I've just explained to Joseph what you've been up to..." Charlie said, then immediately Riza interrupted with : "Nothing, I just saw Heim in the Records." and right after that, Anais yelled : "Riza, haven't seen you in a while"

It was like a big reunion. Joseph whispered to Vulkie : "I need to speak with you, about Davis". Vulkie nodded and went with Joseph to the kitchen.

"This earring may belong to him" Joseph said, placing an earring on the kitchen table. "Try to drop it "in front of him" and look at his reaction..." Joseph said and Vulkie nodded.

The two detectives went back to the living room, when Riza pulled up a bunch of papers. "Take a look at this..." Riza said and Joseph began to read.

Just then, the front door opened. Heimlich entered, his shirt all bloodied. Everyone began to yell : "Heimlich, IS EVERYTHING ALRIGHT?"

Vulkie rushed towards him and placed him in a chair, with a glass of brandy.

"Now, people, just give him some time... He needs his rest..." Vulkie said and Heimlich sighed.

"I can't believe he did it..." Heimlich said. "Who did what Heimlich?' Anais asked, a bit trembling.

"Albert... He.... He.... He placed Valerie up for adoption..." Heimlich replied and tears began to flow. "Now there there..." Molly mused and Vulkie took a napkin and dried Heimlich's tears. "Why's all that blood on your shirt Heimlich? You don't seem to be wounded..." Marc said, a bit hesitating.

"I.... I "bashed" Albert against the wall, broke his nose and make him feel how his late wife felt when she was beaten up...." Heimlich replied.

Just then, the radio began to crack...

*** Special News!***

"We interrupt this programme, because of a special announcement. It has recently come to hear that Albert VonVictor, the brother of Heimlich VonVictor, late lawyer, has been beaten up by his own brother! Mr. Albert VonVictor replied with : "I have no comments.. What my brother did, was justified and I don't want him to be in a bad daylight. However, I will press charges against him because of..." the announcer said and Albert's voice was also heard.

Heimlich took his gun out, shot the radio and everyone backed up...

"I... He.... He makes me sick..." Heimlich said and he swallowed his drink in one turn.

"Anais, Marc, Charlie... Take care of Heim... I have an appointment..." Vulkie said, a bit shook up and so she left, for the dinner appointment.

***Sami's***

6 pm, Vulkie arrived at Sami's. Davis was already seated and already ordered a large plate of food to "grill"

"So, Miss Nouson, I see you've made it..." Davis said and Vulkie smiled. "Yes, traffic was a bit hellish, but anyway, here I am..." Vulkie said and so, Davis and Vulkie began a conversation about politics and about other stuff.

When Vulkie was full and Davis also, Vulkie said : "I've got to go to the bathroom... Excuse me..." Vulkie said, as she dropped the earring on the table. Vulkie walked away, looking back, to see Davis's astonishment.

Davis immediately made a run for it. "Hold it!" Vulkie yelled and ran after Davis.

A chase immediately began and Davis was a much faster runner then Vulkie. Vulkie couldn't keep up with Davis and lost him eventually.

"Damn..." Vulkie said, all out of "oxygen" and began to breath heavily and returned to Heim's house.

***Heim's House***

7.30 pm, Vulkie arrived back at Heim's house and explained what happened. "YOU LOST HIM?!" Heimlich yelled at Vulkie and she apoligized ten times... "I couldn't keep up with him..."

"Great,he's probably hiding now.." Heimlich said and yelled...

((Note: A late lawyer would imply that Heimlich is dead. As he is not, I assume what Vulkie meant was former lawyer.))

Earlier that night-

"I guess I shouldn't be surprised Serena." Heimlich said to the box sitting next to him, "You always were one to dodge procedure."

A figure sat down on the other side of him and said softly, "Are you alright Mr. VonVictor?"

He turned to see Abigail Stone sitting there and waved at her dismissively. "I don't need any help you can offer Ms. Stone. I've heard how you helped my partner and I don't think I would be any better for having known you. Go home, and we'll call you if we need you." he said exasperated.

"Well if you won't talk to me," she said, "talk to your friends. They obviously care for you, and may be able to help you. What's in the box, a turtle?"

Heimlich stared at her expressionless. "The box contains the mother of my son." he responded, "The son that I never met. The son I have no trace of. The son who I will never know because of the life I chose for myself."

Horrified, Abigail clasped her hands over her mouth. "I'm so sorry," she said, "I didn't know."

Heimlich nodded sadly. "I used to bring her here," he said indicating the small area in which they were seated, "she loved that fountain over there. She would sit on the edge of it and tell me that if she could sit here forever, life would be so much easier."

"Do you bring her here often?" Abigail asked.

"No," Heimlich responded with a tinge of regret, "it's been too painful to every bring her back to here after she disappeared. This was the place we first realized there was something more than friendship between us. I haven't been back since, but I couldn't stop myself today."

Abigail placed her hand on Heimlich's arm. "I'm sure she's glad that you brought her back to a place that meant so much to her." she said softly.

Heimlich smiled for the first time in a while, picked up the box, and walked over to the fountain. He sat down and put his hand into the water. "That's what you loved to do Serena. You said that while the world was chaotic, this place was peaceful and always would be." He looked up to the sky, nodded, opened the box, and slowly poured the ashes into the fountain. "Now it's your home forever."

Abigail walked over and helped him to his feet. "Would you like me to walk you home Mr. VonVictor? I'm going to the hospital to check on Mr. Marvington and that's by your house anyway." Heimlich nodded gratefully and the two set off together

*-In another part of the city-*

"They're the children of my friends Katia! One is the niece of my boss!" Sergei shouted.

"What?" another voice responded, "So now I am servant girl? Psh! Do yourself!"

"Is a favor for my friends! Katia you do nothing all day! Watch the children for a few hours so I can do my job!" Sergei fired back.

"Fine!" the other voice shouted, "But I am not happy Sergei! And why can we not speak Russian between us?"

"We have talked about this Katia." Sergei said, "You must learn English! You depend too much on your Russian language."

The woman let out a scoff, but it was clear who had won the argument. The two girls giggled as they listened to the two Russians arguing. They stopped when Sergei came out with a bit smile on his face.

"Girls," he said, "I will leave you with Ms. Katia now, but I will be back. Be good or I will tell Uncle Heimlich!" he finished, wagging a finger at them. He turned to leave and yelled back, "Oy! Dirac! Don't fall asleep! I will be back later!"

Katia began screaming in Russian, but Sergei was already out the door. The two girls giggled as they wondered what a dirac was.

"I don't want to make Uncle Heimie angry." Josèe said in a whisper, "He's really nice, but really old."

Valerie suppressed a giggle then became solemn. "I always heard Uncle Heimlich was really mean and didn't like children, so we weren't allowed to visit him." she said.

Josèe shook her head. "Not my Uncle Heimie!" she insisted, "He's the bestest!"

"So we both have an Uncle Heimlich," Valerie wondered, "what does that mean?"

Josèe put her finger up to her chin. "Well if he's both of our uncles but neither of our dads then that must mean, we're sisters!" she deduced.

Valerie clapped. "That's right! That makes sense! I never had a little sister and my mommy died with only me." she finished slightly sadder.

Josèe's eyes widened and she threw a hug around Valerie. "My mommy died with only me too! We are sisters!" she said happily.

The girls laughed together as they hugged for a minute and Valerie couldn't remember when last she felt so happy. A thought came across her mind. "What things can I do with a little sister?" she asked.

Josèe put her finger on her chin and thought for a second. "Exploring!" she said, "We can go outside and go exploring!"

Valerie placed her hands over her mouth. "No! Ms. Nin said we couldn't go outside alone!" she insisted.

Josèe giggled. "But we're not alone! I'm with my big sister! And you're with your little sister!" she said.

"I guess that works!" Valerie said happily, but then another thought came into her head. "What about Ms. Katia?" she asked.

Josèe smiled and stifled a giggle as she raised her finger up to her lips motioning for silence. When the room was quiet, Valerie could hear the unmistakable sound of snoring coming from the other room. The two girls tiptoed in to find Ms. Katia sleeping on the couch. They tiptoed back out so as not to wake her, walked to the door, opened it, and stepped out into the city.

As the company waited for Vulkie to return from her dinner with Joe Davis, Zeo flipped through the documents Riza had found for the mayor. It was indeed troubling news.

By then Heimlich had calmed down from his uncharacteristic fits of rage. Anais, Marc and Charlie did a great job at keeping the old man company, asking the right questions and avoiding the touchy subjects. They also filled him in with the details of their investigations. Although Molly had rejoined the group, she seemed removed, sitting in a corner by herself drinking whiskey.

"You said Mayor Hollis asked for this about a week ago?" Zeo frowned.

Riza nodded in response. She clenched her fist unconsciously and her knuckles were turning white. "As you see, this is not an easy task and it took me this long to put everything together." By then, everyone's attention was turning toward this conversation.

"These records will ensure Hollis to smuggle the Eye of God to anywhere in the World..." Zeo said.

"Yes, these stones looks exactly like the legendary Gem. I didn't realize why he wanted these lesser gem records until I opened the mayor's drawer and spotted the photo of the Eye. That's when everything clicked."

"As long as they examine the Eye of God in broad day light, no one will know the difference, and he can official transport the Eye to anywhere in the world..." To where? and to whom? Zeo wondered.

"Hey but Hollis does have these records yet." Riza reminded him.

"Hollis might be looking for you now, and in the mean time he could still process the gems while waiting for these records to surface. All the while Barnes is rotting in jail for a robbery and murder he did not commit." Zeo sighed.

"Unfortunately, whatever evidence Marc and Molly found at the museum was taken away by, probably, the Order's man. The coroner's report on Kincaid's broken fingers and angle of the blow might help create doubt in the mind of the jury, but it was not sufficient to proof Barnes being innocent." Heimlich remarked, "Albert could easier explain these discrepancies away..." Upon mentioning his brother, Heimlich's face grew dark again.

"I am sure Vulkie have found something useful from her dinner with this Davis person." Anais quickly said, in hopes of clearing his glooming a bit.

As if on cue, Vulkie arrived back at Heim's house, only to notify the group about Davis gotten away.

"YOU LOST HIM?!" Heimlich yelled at Vulkie and she apoligized ten times...

"I couldn't keep up with him..." She explained.

"Great,he's probably hiding now.." Heimlich said and yelled...

Marc stood up. "There is no doubt that Davis is working for Hollis. Anyone in their right mind knows that Hollis is heading the Order of Socrates. Perhaps, Davis is the Mayor's right hand man." Marc said, taking out his pipe. He didn't light it, but he put the end of it in his mouth and began pacing around the room, continuing on. "Hollis knows something. He knows something about The Eye of God."

Everyone nodded.

Vulkie stood up, "Even if he knows something about it, how are we going to get him to tell us?"

"Joseph? With your permission, I'd like to pay the Mayor a visit. I have my ways, my dear Vulkie. I have my ways." Marc said with a crooked grin.

He looked at Joseph and waited for a response.
