Things don't always go as you would want them to go. I looked at the dead body of 26 year old Carol Fisher. She had been mutilated by someone. Stabbed a total of seven times and then shot once in the head. The local police knew who the killer was. The problem was finding him. They had a name. They had proof. They had physical evidence that linked him to the crime and witness evidence. It was enough evidence to put him a way for life.

I was worned that he is a master of disguises. He can disapper with the blink-of-an-eye.

Detective Thomas McDonald looked at me when I was finished examining the body. "I heard about your reputation around here."

"What about it?" I asked

"If you can catch our killer, Charles Craig, I can promise a handsome reward." he replied.

I thought about it. Money. I needed money real bad. I was behind on rent for both my apartment and my office. Money is good.

"Fine. I'll take it," I said and I left back for my office. I reviewed the background and case file of Mr. Craig. This wasn't going to be easy, that was for sure. I decided to make a phone call to a few friends of mine to see if they would be interested in making some decent money in helping to find a killer who could blend in to even the smaller crowds.

It was dark and there was nothing I could do for the night. I'd have to start in the morning. So I went home for the night to get some sleep. The next morning, went to my office to make a call to a few friends to see if they'd be interested in making a few dollars in helping to find this killer.

With that he produced a rag from his pocket and advanced on Molly, who was fiercely struggling to escape from Kevin. However much she struggled though, he held on firmly.

Smiling a little, the man forced the suspiciously sweet-smelling rag over her nose and mouth and even as she kicked him viciously in the shin, her head spun and with a tiny sigh, she let her impossibly heavy eyelids close and sunk down into the darkness.

"Good work." the man said, and slung Molly over his shoulder. He started towards the door, but Kevin called out after him.

"What about my payment?" he called.

The man stopped, and reached into his pocket..

"Course, I forgot. Here's your payment." he said jovially, and turned to shoot Kevin Craig right between the eyes. He moved on, whistling a tune, and didnt even bother to shut the door behind him.

I awoke to a dimly lit room. Everything seemed fuzzy. I tried to sit up but couldn't. A sharp pain ripped through my chest. Then I remembered it. The whole thing.

I was walking away from the man I had mistaken as Charles. Vulkie and Charlie pulled up and yelled for me to get in. As I made my way to their car, two men fired at me. Two bullets ripped through me.

I fell unconscience they brought me here. I looked around the hospital room. A nurse was in there tending to my IV. "I'm glad to see you awake," she said.

"Glad to be awake," I replied quietly. The doctor entered the room just then. "I'm happy to see you up, Marc." he said, "I'm doctor Warren Robertson." he continued, extending his arm for a hand shake.

"It's nice to meet you, doc." I said shaking his hand.

"Your wounds seem to be healing. but it will take some time. Lucky for you, no organs got hit. The first bullet just missed your spinal column by a mere 2 millimeters, while the second bullet barely grazed your leg. You're a lucky survivor."

"Thanks doc. Listen, I'm in the middle of working on a case. How long until I can get up and start back on it?" I asked.

"With your torso wound, I'd say a minimum of five days."

"Five days???!!! I dont' have five days! I'm trying to find a killer working with the MAFIA!" I yelled

"I'm sorry Marc. You'll have to stay here over night-"
"I"m not staying here over night." I snapped. "I reached for my IV cord to pull it out-needle and all.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. That pain medicine is keeping you from extreme pain."

"Let me tell you something doc!" I yelled. "I was in the great war! I know what pain is. I've been shot before. I know how to deal with the pain!" I said.

"Fine, we'll have you checked out by morning. I can't let you leave tonight. The earliest I can get you out is tomorrow morning." The doctor said impatiently. Then he walked out of the room. The only thing I could do now was wait for the gang to come in.

Molly came to very slowly.

Her vision was fuzzy, and her head seemed impossibly heavy as she lifted it and blearily looked around. She was handcuffed by her left wrist to a chair in a sparse room. A table was before her, as was a new man before her, calmly leafing through her notepad.

"Didn't your mother ever teach you it was bad form to read a girl's diary?" she asked, her voice scratchy from lack of water. She let her head fall forward, her red hair falling from its previously perfect style as she willed her rusty brain to think.

The man chuckled. "You keep a very interesting diary, Miss..."

"Maltese." Molly said with a sigh, running her hand through her hair and surreptitiously checking to see if her gun was still safely stored in the front of her dress. It was; she couldn't help but raise her eyebrows in surprise at their lack of thoroughness.

The man must have read her mind, for he leisurely stood and crossed around the table, looking down at her with an almost kind expression.

"You aren't armed by any chance, are you Miss Maltese?" he asked.

"Not a chance." she said with a smile, and then sighed as he shook his head slightly and with a flicker of a grin, reached down the front of her dress to clasp the handle of her gun.

"Good lord, Tiger, at least buy me dinner first!" she said with a grin and a bat of her eyelashes. He laughed and sat back down, spinning her gun idly on the top of the desk.

"So Miss Maltese, tell me why you're hunting for Charles Craig..." he asked, his black eyes boring into hers.

Leaving the hospital to get my head clear,I saw a car rushing by. "Nah,nothing" I murmered as it rushed by and there stood Ace,on the other side of the road.

"Ace" I murmered and I blank minded walked to the other side, not knowing there were cars coming. Charlie immediately pulled me back on the street and yelled : "What's the matter with you?!"

"Sorry, one of my visions..." I said (See Josèe for reference).

"Ah,you told me about them. Stuck for life eh?" Charlie said and I nodded. "Yeah..." I murmered and walked a while with Charlie.

"Charlie, business has been slow for me at the moment" I began and he sighed. "Same for me Vulkie, same for me" as Charlie patted me on the shoulder.

"This is my first case in three months. I needed to get out. Staying with Joseph and Heimlich isn't really making my life easier" I said and Charlie nodded.

"Well, they also need time for themselves. So do I,so does Marc,so does Molly etc. etc." Charlie said. We stopped at a bar. "I'll buy you some drinks" I said and Charlie smiled. "Thanks" he said and so we entered the bar...

3 hours later.

Returning to the hospital,we saw that Marc was awake. "Hiya Marc. So,where's Nellie and Molly?" I asked and he murmered something about not asking how he was doing. "Nellie's over there" he said and pointed to Nellie, who immediately waved back.

"As for Molly..." Marc began slowly and I sighed. "Let me guess, not returned yet?" I said and he nodded.

"Great..." I said and Charlie took a seat next to Marc.

"Let's wait for her" Charlie said and we waited for 5 hours...

5 hours later.

"Still ain't here" Charlie said to me,as I was walking in rounds in the room. "Something's wrong. She was going to check something out. And she hasn't returned yet... What if La Cosa Nostra knows about who she is?" I said and Marc,Nellie and Charlie looked up.

"No.. Not possible" Marc said. "It's not probable, but it's possible" I said and Charlie nodded.

"I already made a plan,in case like something happens like this.." I said and I began to phone around.

"Well, that's it" I said 10 minutes later. From now on,I'm Victoria Necrota,a La Cosa Nostra member. "No way!" Marc yelled and I smiled. "I've got connections there, and they still owe me a favor or 2" I replied.

"Be careful" Charlie said and I gave a small kiss on his cheek. "I always am,ain't I?" I replied and I went off,to have a meeting with Meyer Lansky,an old "family" friend of mine.

20 minutes later,at a bar in NY.

"Hello Mr. Lansky. It's been a while.." I said and Meyer nodded. "Certainly a while,Victoria. So,why you want back to LCN?" Meyer asked.

"Well,OoS treated me really bad and I hate the churches. So,nothing left then LCN. Also,I still have some information for Miss Santinelli left and also for your boss,"Lucky" Luciano." I replied back. Meyer nodded and said : "I've already arranged a meeting for you with "Lucky". You can meet him here, within 10 minutes" Meyer said and he left the bar,as I enjoyed my whisky.

And there he was. Graciously,he entered the bar, surrounded by bodyguards and taking place in my booth.

"So... Victoria... I hear you have some information..." Luciano began and I replied with "Yes"...

"It seems your old friend Charles Craig is on the loose again. Killing girls, killing his own sister, almost killing a friend of mine..." I said and Luciano interrupted with : "Cut the crap Victoria. That's not what you wanted to tell me."

He knew that I held it back. My "true love" for him...

I kissed him on the mouth and he kissed me back immediately. "Well, that's good information. I'll get you Craig. But it'll take a while. He's disappeared into thin air by now..." Luciano said and I nodded.

"Well,if you get him for me,you'll get me for some time.." I said in a flattering way and he blinked with his eyes.

"Good. Now go. I have some "unfinished" business" Luciano said and I left.

I decided to pay a small visit to the hideout of Michael Gambetti.

***10 minutes later***

As I almost knocked on the door,I heard shouting. "You won't get any information" Molly yelled and I immediately pulled my gun and knocked on the door.

"What you want?" Michael yelled. "It's me,Victoria,an old friend" I replied and Michael graciously opened the door.

"Miss Necrota,it's been a long time. Sorry for the terrible loud yelling,I've got a "spy" here." Michael said and I nodded.

"Doesn't matter Michael. Close the door" I said and he did so. While he did so,I aimed my gun at the back of his head and pulled the trigger. "I'm the traitor, she isn't" I said and Molly looked at my with large eyes.

"You... You just killed him..." Molly said trembling. "It was either you or him. Which you prefer?" I replied, with a small smile. And I began to untie Molly...

Molly watched Vulkie retrieve the keys to the set of cuffs on the dead man impatiently, tapping her foot primly. Once she was free, she massaged her left wrist and stood.

"I was kidding by the way." she said with a wink at Vulkie. "I would have killed him if he hadn't figured out where I stored my goods, literally."

With that she picked up her gun and held it out as she threw open the door and danced into the hall, her hair flying this way and that as she looked for possiblilities of an exit. She hurried lightly down the hallway and had almost made it to the door when a thug stepped out of the shadows behind a corner and grasped her, a knife slashing down from his upraised hand.

Vulkie, who was just behind her, saw the knife slash across Molly's upraised face and blood spray across the mans front even as Molly raised her gun with a steady hand and shot him through the heart. He fell, and she bent over, one hand held to her face which was shielded by her hair, blood dripping through her fingers.

"We've got to go." she said in a hoarse voice, and began to run towards the exit, fat droplets of blood marking a tidy little trail behind her as they raced towards freedom.

"Are you alright?" Vulkie asked anxiously as they reached the street.

"Yes, I'm fine, it's just a scratch." Molly said, her lips tight and her hand still firmly over her face. Methodically, she reached into her purse and pulled a handkerchief out, which she pressed down over her wound.

"What you suppose we should do?" She asked when she had finished her ministrations. "It seems every possible lead we get on Charles Craig goes nowhere, or leads to someone who invariably dies before we can get anything out of them. I'm quite at my wit's end."

They got in Vulkie's car and drove back to the hospital, intending to see Marc, but the minute the hospital aides saw Molly's blood-splattered dress and the now-crimson handkerchief she was holding to her head, they insisted on whisking her away to be patched together.

"Tell Marc and the others everything that has happened!" she called. "All of you think up the next plan of action, I'll try to get out of here as soon as I can!"

And she was hurried around the corner and out of Vulkie's sight.

"Looks like he's waking up." That was the first thing Murray Lucconi heard. Slowly the room came back into focus. He looked up at the pure white ceiling above him, the sounds of chatter were all around, he tried to pull himself up, but found that his right arm was immobile. He glanced over and found that he was handcuffed to the bed. An older man stood over him with a smug grin on his face, "Welcome back Murray. Looks like things didn't go according to plan did they?"

"Who are you?" Murrary asked, "Am I under arrest?"

The man laughed, "My name is Heimlich VonVictor, and you're in the hospital. You tried killing Dorothy Donnelly and stealing her jewels. Ring any bells?"

"What? Where's Robbie?" Murray asked nervously. Robbie had planned the whole thing. It was supposed to be the easiest thing in the world; kill the old woman, take the jewelry, no one would ever care. They didn't count on her son being there. Her son, off duty Officer Robert Donnelly. He had been shot! That was right! They barely got into the house!

VonVictor let out another laugh, "He's dead you piece of garbage! He died upstairs about an hour ago." Heimlich then brought his face close to Murray's, "But you know what he did before he died? He said this was all your idea. That's a dying declaration Luccioni, you're going away for a long time."

"No!" he shouted, "Please! I was just a pawn! Just a hired hand, you gotta believe me Mr. VonVictor! Robbie planned it all!"

Heimlich shook his head, "He was dying! Why would Robert Post blame you if he knew he was dying?"

Luccioni's face wrinkled, "Post? Robbie's last name was Spencer. Detective are you sure you had the right guy?"

"He was shot in the same house as you wasn't he?" Heimlich shouted, "Scumbags always give a fake name!" He pulled out a piece of paper, "Here! Write down what happened in your own words, and maybe, just maybe, I'll pass it along to the prosecutor with my recommendation of mercy!"

"But Detective," he responded, "my right hand is cuffed! I can't write!"

Heimlich sighed, cuffed his left hand to the bed, and uncuffed his right, "Write!" he ordered, thrusting a pen into his hand. Murray scribbled furiously at the paper and minutes later handed it back to Heimlich.

"I'll see what I can do." Heimlich said coldly as he walked away. He hurried down the corridor to the nurses' station and motioned to the one that he needed to use the phone. She nodded and he picked it up.

"Hello operator? Please give me the New York City Police Department." he said into the receiver. A minute later he heard the familiar voice on the other end, "Captain Steele please... Captain, this is Heimlich VonVictor. You can go ahead and release Luke Davis and Robert Post, I just got a signed confession out of the accomplice, looks like Robert Spencer is the guy. Yeah, and turns out the accomplice is right handed. Those plans you found, they were written by a left handed person. I'll bet you anything it's Spencer... You're very welcome! Happy to be of service."

It was too easy, one suspect shot, the other fled. Unfortunately when they got there, three men in the area matched the vague description by Officer Donnelly. Fortunately, the accomplice had played right into his hand.

He walked over to the head nurse, "Margot, I'm heading out. I need to sign out of the visitor's log. It should be under Luccioni, M."

Margot scanned the book, "Did you say Lacrimosa, M.? You're not signed in under him."

"No," Heimlich responded, "Lucci... what? Did you say Lacrimosa, M.?"

Margot nodded, "Yes, but please don't say anything! I'm not supposed to tell anyone who's in the book!"

"No, no, it's quite alright," he responded, "do me a favor and sign me in under Lacrimosa, M." Margot nodded and began to write his name in the log. Heimlich's heart was pounding.

"Room 245," Margot directed him, "go ahead up." Heimlich nodded and took off down the hallway.
