Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

I glanced up at the large clock again. Each tick and each tock drove my mind farther back into the past. A past I had left behind ten long years before. A past I was facing now.

But first came the waiting. I hate waiting.

I glanced around the station again. Deserted. Not a soul in sight. Strange, considering that this used to be a bustling train station ten years ago. I pulled the letter out of my shoulder bag to look at it again.

"Anais, Be at Winchester Station, Platform 7 at 23.00, 2/15. ~Lisette"

Lisette. Could I really face her after all this time? Well, I was about to find out. With a shaking hand, I shoved the letter deep into my bag. Where was she? It was 23.17. Lisette had never been late in the twenty plus years I had known her. What was going on?

"WE CAN'T LEAVE VULKIE!" I screamed.

"Yes, we can, and we have to, Anais. Do you know who they are trying to kill?" Joseph asked me sternly as Lisette held me in the car.

The instant his words sank in, my face went pale. "Me. They are trying to kill me," I whispered.

"I'm sorry, Ana, I didn't know quite what I was getting you into. If Father hadn't-" Lisette was trying to calm me down.

I interrupted her, "Why do you call Poppa 'Father', Ette? You never used to."

Lisette's face turned stormy. "It is a long pointless story that we have no time for right now," she clipped.

"Anais, we need to know what you know, so we can figure out why La Cosa Nostra wants to kill you," Joseph said in a reasonable voice.

"Well, we know it's because of that stupid Priceless Statuette of Bha Zhing Ze, don't we? And the paper. Is the paper the one that man gave me?" I asked Lisette.

"No. It is the one you wrote in code for Father telling him where the paper is that unlocks the statue. Which is probably in another code. And we both know how horrible I am at cracking codes. That was your talent," Lisette had gone back to being surly.

"Well, I'm not sure I still can...it has been ten years, you know," I winced the moment the words were out of my mouth. Wrong thing to say.

Lisette glared at me. "Yes, I realize, Anais. More so than, you I think. It took me nine to track you down."

"You were looking for me for nine years?" I whispered, stunned.

"Yes."

Just then, Joseph braked suddenly, and my head flew forward and hit the seat in front of me and then flew in the opposite direction and hit the window behind me. The broken glass cut my head, and the last thing I heard was, "How often does this woman faint?!" before everything went black.

LCN was never very happy with traitors. Ace would've been in hot water with the mob for failing his mission, except for the fact that he had technically "captured" Vulkie. She was locked down in his basement, just waiting to take a beating from the mob.

Ace left her alone with her bandaged wound. He had another mission now. It was somewhat to fix the damage he had done. He completed it with ease and returned home.

"Dinnertime, hun." He cheered, bringing a tray down the steps. She was asleep on the floor.

Ace placed the food on the table and woke her up.
"Vulkie..." She began to stir. She sat up at the sweet smell of food.
"Food?" She groggily murmured.
"Yep. Just some spaghetti... all I could make up." Ace replied, "Sorry it's not more for the woman who saved my life."

Vulkie stood up slowly as Ace pulled a chair up for her. As she sat down, she asked him, "What do you mean, I saved your life?"
"Well, if I hadn't 'captured' you for La Cosa Nostra, I would be the one getting the beating instead of you."
"Me??? Why???" She sat up, alarmed.
"Well, you were traitorous." Ace started, "But... well... I may be able to convince them not to, if you'll tell me everything Anais told you."
"You can't con me into that. I know all about LCN's tactics. I did work there, you know."
"No, no, I'm serious. They really are coming, they really will beat you, and I really will let you go."
"That's a mighty tempting offer. I wish she had said more."
"Alright, look." Ace said, "Tell me everything Miss Nin told you, and I will not only convince them to stop, but I will have them let you go."
"Sounds fair. What's the catch?" She asked slyly.
"The catch is that you will not come in contact with them again unless it's passing at the supermarket. You won't help them, you won't protect them, you won't even talk to them. Unless, of course, you are trying to kill them."
"I think I can live with that."

About an hour later, Vulkie exited the house, free as a bird. The LCN now knew almost as much as the others did.

((Let it be known that LCN now also knows the identities of Joseph Zeo and Lisette Nin. ;-) ))

((LOL i don't even know there's a Spanish mofia. I'm sure there is one, just that i'm not familiar with it :P ))

I feared for Anais, if LCN doesn't kill her first, her head injuries will.
A large truck was parked right across the road, with a man standing in front of it holding a Lewis gun. I think it was either Fredo or the shooter outside the theatre. I couldn't tell in semi darkness. How did they know where we're heading?

Immediately I turned the car around and yelled to Lisette to look out for her unconscious sister. I stepped on the gas and sped away at 90 miles per hour. I saw two Buicks from my rear view mirror coming out from the alley and followed us. More bullets. My rear view mirror shattered. I stepped on the gas harder, but it was only making more noise. Why did I have to fall in love with Lisette? The woman had been nothing but trouble, and I knew she cling onto me because of my usefulness. I must change my taste for bad woman, if I could.

I tried a few turns but still couldn't lose the two hounds behind us. Vulkie was much better at this. Perhaps heading for the other side of town might do the trick, so I steered towards the bridge. It was hours past midnight, was the bridge was still open?

Turned out that the bridge has closed, or should I say, wide open in the middle. Damn it.

More bullets. One Buick yanked at our car and Lisette yelled for me to go faster. 'Shut up!' I thought. I had no other choice; it was too late to turn around. I crashed the gate and headed for the open bridge. I figured the gap was at least 30 feet. I sped up the sloping bridge, at a 45 degrees angle. Lisette asked me what I think I was doing. I ignored her. We approached the edge.

“Okay, all or nothing. Here we go.”

We flew across in mid air. Lisette screamed. Boats were passing by underneath us.

We landed.

The two cars stopped at the edge, on the other side. We’re okay, for now.
We must go somewhere they’d least expect. I just might have the idea.
