It is with huge regret and sadness that I must tell you all that Kas passed away yesterday morning.

Her heart stopped and she was only 56. She will be buried in Vancouver in the next few days by her grieving family.

For those of you who didn't know her very well, she was the kindest and sweetest woman you are likely to meet and Hunters won't be the same without her. She loved Sleuth and our community has lost a truly important member.

I may keep on her avatar in rememberance.

If you have any messages for her family then please post them and I shall pass them on.

I'm still speechless and it will take some time to sink in.

I thank you all for taking the time to read this.

It sounds like I've missed out on meeting a truly special person. Heartfelt sympathies to all her friends here.

Oh, my dear friend Kathi.
Why!!! Why did you have to leave? Life is so unfair!

I lack words to express my sorrow. You were such a kind woman, always caring for others. All the great time we had together, it's hard to understand that it's now history. I can remember how we hunted for contacts together, and would discuss the stubbornness of a silk merchant or an imam, and how to convince them that they had better submit to our endurance. I can remember how we could hunt for sevral treasures together, and winning 6 treasures on 4 days, only to agree afterwards that we were so happy that we were currently not hunting any treasures.
I can remember how you would help me see more clearly when I had wound myself into being narrow eyed. You would always help me and encourage me. Even though we both suffered from our Sleuth Addiction Disease, you would be the one of us that had the most endurance. You were always a hard worker, and you rarely thought about getting the benefits for yourself. If there were some in the agency (Hunter's), that had less time, and were not able to do their work, you would often step in, and do the work for them, giving their characters the reward for your work.
Even though you were tired in the evening, you would always log in close to turnover, to save the cases so they did not get lost. Some times you could be sitting very late in the night to work on a project. About always to the benefit of the agency, a team, or someone else.
I even remember how we managed to catch the arch villain for Momdee, when she suddenly got herself retired, and the rejoice when you finally was able to get her the female 4-0-4 coat in exchange for the one she lost.

I am thankful for the time we have had together, and I will greatly miss you. It is also good to know that I can rest in the hope that we will meet again on the other side. But, that does not take away the big hole in my life which I now only can try to fill with all the good memories that you left behind.

Not only were you important to me, and to many people here in Sleuth, but you were also important to all your relatives. You were always able to express things in a funny way, and see the bright side of things, and you would tell hillariously about things that happened in your family. It was always easy to tell your love for all your own, the way you cared for your son, and the close and good relationship you had with your sister, and the rest of your family. Just as your avatar shows, there is much kindness, graciousness and love that were inside you, and it was impossible to find any negative to say about you. Everyone who met you, had to love you. Just as I did as well. You will stay in my prayers and in my heart and mind.
You will be deeply missed!

Sincerely
Huglover

I have just heard from Kathi's sister. Here is what she wrote:

''Thanks for your thoughts & kind words. We have just arranged for the service on Friday at 11:00 AM, but in lieu of flowers or anything of that sort, if you and anyone else wanted to do something in her memory, a memorial to PADS (Pacific Assisance Dog Society) would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if you were aware of Kathi's association with that organization, but she & her late husband & their son Dane were all involved with them for many years. Her husband Gary had MS and had one of the dogs as a companion for serveral years before he died, and Kathi was a puppy-raiser for them. She would have the puppies for the first 18 months before they went into advanced training. In fact, one of the dogs now in advanced training is being sponsored in Gary's honor. If you are interested in something like this, you can go to their website (pads.ca) and find any information there for doing that.

Thanks for everything -

Sandi ''

I have contacted PADS and have asked them to set up a Kas Memorial fund - I should hear back from them soon.

If anyone wishes to contribute you can send money to my paypal account doz.bee@ntlworld.com .

I also invite everyone to light a candle in Kas's memory on Friday.

Thank you.

Ddog, I know that you and Kas were good friends, and I thank you for taking all this on while you deal with your own grief. Although flowers are beautiful, this type of memorial is much more meaningful and worthy of Kathi's memory, and I'm glad her sister brought it to our (via you) attention.

Ddog, thank you very much for getting in touch with Kas' sister. The memorial fund sounds like a great idea to me. Do you have a planned deadline to send over the donation?

I heard from PADS today. They cannot put a specific 'Kas' memorial on the site but are delighted to accept a donation in her honour.

I plan to leave it until Friday to allow anyone who wishes to contribute to do so & then send them our donation on behalf of the Sleuth Community.

Thank you to all those who have contributed already - it makes me proud to be part of this community.

Once I have handed over our donations I shall post the total raised and any message from PADS.

Thank you and I'll be in touch again soon.
