i don 't mind role playing and I don't mind getting mindless messages. I mind mild obscenities, though.
whoever is Joe Shady should just back off the first time he/she is asked.
I only play for fun.
this is not fun.

It seems he's posted on several threads and sent PMs to anyone who was online. I received a message from this character, too. I didn't respond. He's seeking attention.

Use the Ignore button in the Sleuth Email next time you receive a message from him.

Also, when you see he has posted, don't read it.

There, see all fixed! :-)

Ignoring someone may give you some small peace, but it won't make the problem go away. It's a temporary fix at best. My suggestion is to save any and ALL messages you get from the offender (no matter how offensive you find them), do a small bit of homework, and ask around to others and have THEM gather their messages, and do one community email to Admin with all the PM's. I'm told Admin tends to answer emails faster than his Sleuthmail, and therefore you should get results sooner. Also include any instances you can of City Hall Message Board infractions (both are Code of Conduct violations, but the MB violations tend to get quicker action). Spamming people, using offensive or abusive language, and defaming people on the Message Boards are all bannable offenses.

By the way, anyone who doesn't know, the Code of Conduct is located at the bottom of every page. It's one of the dark gray tabs you'll find there, along with things like a link to Hypothetical Software, the Newbie FAQ, and the Privacy Policy. ;-)

Briet, I respectfully have to disagree with your suggestion. That seems like alot of work, and isn't the purpose of the game to do cases and have fun? It is easier to control your own actions then dictate to someone else how you want them to behave. I'm not that into mob mentality behavior where everyone starts a campaign to get rid of someone.

I'm sure the Administrators can see how many Ignore's someone has on them, and if that number gets very high they can investigate. Same with deleted posts on the message boards. Also, I think it is not very reasonable to suggest that one send Emails to the entire community to see if they have received Spam, then collate everyone's emails together and send one email to Admin. It's their game and they need to police it, not me nor anyone else. They need to read individuals emails and if they see a pattern and have alot of complaints against someone, then act on it.

I'm still sticking with the Ignore button and not reading posts if I don't like them and I think that is a more reasonable answer to a new player who doesn't know anyone but who might be receiving abusive emails.

Now I can get back to work in the agency and have fun with one Finger on the Ignore button. :-)

Unfortunatly the ignore button is not foolproof in which case the offending PMs (and name of author) should be sent on to Admin. who can trace the IP address to the computer they came from. One person can hide behind fake identities but they need to remember that it is easy for Admin to find them out.

I've never witnessed mob mentality in this game. I've witnessed bullying and I think it's ugly. I've seen people systematically abusing other users and I hate that too. There is definitely a need for moderators to police the boards and admin to take action against abusive users, otherwise we really could end up with a mob who are intent on causing trouble.

I'm not sure how far police would get in their investigations without witnesses so it makes a lot of sense for people to report trouble to the admin in this game. Everyone has the right to enjoy this game in the spirit of fun and nobody has the right to abuse other players... otherwise the game would become unplayable. It makes sense from both sides.

Ignore is useful if you have a subjective dispute with someone and the argument will never end, but when someone is objectively breaking the rules, it needs addressing otherwise there's no point in having a code of conduct.

Sorry I've been on holidays and I thought he'd have gone away by now. I had been deleting all his feral posts, I'll get back into that.

I agree Brasco, but for now, if anyone does get annoying PM's from Joe Shady just put him on ignore. If you don't, then you're just asking for more of the same, and I don't see any sense in that.
